BOX SCORE 1 |
BOX SCORE 2 LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis softball team didn't score in the first game of its NEC doubleheader with Fairleigh Dickinson, nor did it score through the first five innings of game two. Trailing 4-0 in the second game, the team showed it's offensive capabilities as it scored three runs in the sixth inning and tied the game in the seventh, down to its final out.
In the sixth,
Taylor Parsons (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle) led off with her fourth home run of the season to put the Flash on the board. After an out,
Samantha Thomas (Sterling, Va./Park View) singled. She was 3-for-5 in game two. After a second out and a Thomas stolen base,
Kindra Witthus (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) reached on a throwing error to allow Thomas to come around to make it 4-2.
Maggie Creciun (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) followed with a triple deep to center to score Witthus as the Flash pulled to within a run. Creciun had two hits in game two.
Still ahead by a run in the bottom of the seventh, FDU recorded two quick outs. But Parsons kept the game alive with a double into the left center gap, and
Sabrie Neeb (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) followed with a single to left field as the Flash pulled even.
Neither team threatened in extras until the 10th. But again it took a two-out rally to accomplish any scoring.
Lindsey Reid (Bear, Del./Caravel Academy) made a great diving grab on a liner in the hole from her second base position, and she doubled the runner off second base to empty the bases with two outs. A 14-pitch at-bat followed, resulting in a walk. Liz Woidt followed with a homer to center to make it 6-4 FDU. Two more singles and another homer, this time to left center, made the score 9-4 FDU as it won by that margin.
Neeb and Parsons each had two hits to join Creciun and Thomas with multi-hit games as SFU pounded out 11 hits in game two.
The first game was a pitcher's delight, resulting in a 1-0 FDU decision. Each team managed just four hits, with Reid and Thomas each producing two for Saint Francis. On the day, Thomas had five hits in eight at-bats.
Woidt again proved to be the hero for FDU with the long ball, as she led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a blast to left field. It was the only blemish on the resume of
Alexis Bower (Cogan Station, Pa./Williamsport Area) in the circle. She went seven full innings allowing just the one run on four hits. She walked just one batter while fanning six.
Prior to the doubleheader, the Flash honored its two seniors,
Chelsy Cosentino (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) and
Davina Kachnovitz (Bear, Del./Glasgow). They will round out their careers tomorrow with a doubleheader against Mount St. Mary's at noon.
