BOX SCORE 2 LORETTO, Pa. – Sabrie Neeb (Front Royal, Va./Skyline) hit two home runs, the second of which came back-to-back with
Taylor Parsons (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle), and
Ethel Santai (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove Area) pitched a complete-game shutout as the Saint Francis softball team completed a sweep of Mount St. Mary's on Sunday afternoon. The Flash won 3-2 and 4-0.
Parsons put the Flash ahead in the bottom of the first of game one. With
Chelsy Cosentino (New Kensington, Pa./Kiski Area) on second with two outs, Parsons lined a ball to center, where Jessica Greenewald slipped on the wet grass. The ball fell in for a hit as SFU had a 1-0 lead.
Alexis Bower (Cogan Station, Pa./Williamsport Area) held the Mount off the board for the first five innings, but she allowed two runs on four hits in the sixth. The last of those two hits came after two outs to score runs, and neither left the infield as the Mount jumped ahead, 2-1.
The Flash fought back in the bottom half, though, without the benefit of a hit. Parsons led off with a walk and Neeb was hit by a pitch.
Lindsey Reid (Bear, Del./Caravel Academy) successfully sacrificed Parsons to third and pinch runner
Kate Blattenberger (Martinsburg, Pa./Central) to second, and
Elise Jancef (Wilson, N.Y./Wilson) followed by driving in Parsons to tie the score at two.
Aly Ramsaier (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) walked to load the bases, and
Maggie Creciun (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) followed with a walk of her own to put the Flash ahead, 3-2. Jancef had singles in each of her two other at-bats to join Bower with multi-hit games.
The Mount singled twice after two outs in the top of the seventh, but Bower induced a pop out to end game one. She finished her freshman season with 16 pitching victories and a 2.36 ERA. At the plate, she hit .305 with seven home runs and a team-high 35 RBIs. She also tied for the team lead with 10 doubles.
In game two, injured senior shortstop
Davina Kachnovitz (Bear, Del./Glasgow) took her position as a starter for the first pitch of the game before being replaced. That first pitch from Santai was a strike, and it set the tone for a great performance from the freshman. In going the distance, she allowed just six hits and two walks while striking out three.
Creciun's infield single in the bottom of the second gave Santai all the run support she would need, as Neeb scored after leading off the inning with a base hit. And even though Santai didn't need the extra runs, Neeb provided the pop as she homered in the fourth inning and followed Parsons' homer in the sixth with another of her own.
Neeb was 3-for-3 with half of the Flash's hits in the game. She leapfrogged Bower for the team lead in homers with eight. Creciun finished with a .323 batting average to lead the team.
