SOMERSET, N.J. (May 8, 2014) – After breaking through to the Northeast Conference Semifinals for the first time in 13 seasons, two Saint Francis U men's tennis student-athletes have been named to All-NEC teams.
By being selected to the league's second team, junior
Chris Jimenez (Bayside, N.Y./St. Francis Preparatory) and freshman
Plamen Avuski (Plovdiv, Bulgaria /Math High School ) became the first Red Flash to garner postseason honors since Brent Keough in 2006.
"I want to congratulate both Chris and Plamen for this honor. It is great to be recognized by the conference's coaches and is well deserved," said SFU coach
Rob Castille. "Both Chris and Plamen have had great years and have improved tremendously throughout the season. I'm already looking forward to seeing what they can do next year as well as the rest of the team."
Jimenez comes off a prolific year in #4 flight play where he registered an NEC-best 10 victories, including two in Saint Francis U's first run to the semifinals since the 2001 season. He also won all six of his NEC matches and ended his junior season on a five-match win streak.
Avuski was one of three 'impact' freshman for the Red Flash this season. The September NEC Rookie of the Month, Avuski finished 12-4 overall and 2-0 against conference opposition. He was 7-1 at the #6 spot, the most wins by any NEC player in the flight.
