BOX SCORE LAS VEGAS, Nevada (August 29, 2014) – For a third consecutive match the Saint Francis U offense struggled to find the back of the net, this time falling to Kent State, 1-0, in overtime at the UNLV Nike Invitational.
Â
The SFU backline held up well and the offense produced ample chances, but the combination of 103-degree temperatures and the Golden Flashes' Karli Paracca eventually won out.
Â
Paracca – who registered a game-high three shots – scored the golden goal in the 97th minute.
Â
"It's frustrating to be 0-3 right now because you can see how close we are," said Flash head coach
Brenda van Stralen. "Every game we're progressing and we're getting close to the point where everything is going to start to connect."
Â
Like in its previous two outings, the Red Flash moved the ball forward effectively, generating nine shots with six of those requiring a stop from Golden Flashes keeper Stephanie Senn.
Â
Kent State managed only one more shot on goal than its counterpart.
Â
From the early goings, Saint Francis showed it was well-suited to control the pace against Kent State (2-1). The Red Flash maintained possession for most of the game, with five different players stepping up to take shots on goal.
Â
Sophomore midfield
Siobhan Bross (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) led SFU with two shots, both of which were on goal. Rookie forward
Gabi Morales (Madrid, Spain/Colegio La Inmaculada-Marillac) also got off two shots, but only one was on the mark.
Â
The Red Flash's freshman goalkeeper, Romina Kunz, played her third-straight complete game to open the season, making six saves in the process.
