PONTIAC, Mich. (August 4, 2014) – Over the weekend the Michigan Bucks claimed its second USL Premier Development League Championship. Two members of the 2013 Saint Francis U men's soccer team were apart of the win as
Francis de Vries (Christchurch, New Zealand/Cashmere) and
Nick Kolarac (Pittsburgh, Pa./West Allegheny) each played for Michigan during the summer months.
The PDL is currently the top-level men's amateur soccer league in the United States with 62 teams competing in four conferences.
"I am really happy for Nick and Francis. Playing for the Michigan Bucks, and winning the PDL championship is a tremendous accomplishment for them and I couldn't be happier to see their success," said SFU head coach
Michael Casper. "They have played at a high level all summer and I hope this continues to show their individual quality, but also the type of player and the quality we have here at Saint Francis."
Kolarac played in 13 games for Michigan logging over 900 minutes of playing time, while scoring a goal and adding three assists during the season.
de Vries logged over 1,000 minutes of time in 12 games and dished out two assists, while helping the backline record a shutout in the Championship win over the Kitsap Pumas.
