GREENSBURG, Pa. – Much like the men's squad, the Saint Francis U women's tennis team took a tough draw despite playing out of division on Friday.

The Red Flash fell by a 5-2 final score in Greensburg to Carnegie Mellon University.  The Tartans entered the match as the seventh ranked team in all of NCAA Division III.

"I thought the girls played pretty well against a very good Carnegie Mellon squad," said SFU coach Rob Castille. "I am pleased to see that the girls are buying into the fact that we need to be very energetic and positive from the first point to the last. I feel that if we worry about those things and compete at our best, the results will come. I don't want us to focus so much on the result as our goal is to get better each day and each match so that when the conference tournament comes, we are playing at our best."

CMU struck first by taking the doubles point and went on to win three the next four singles matches to clinch the team victory.  Rafaela Panizza (Jundiai, Brazil)'s No. 2 racket, broke up the Tartan run with a, 6-0, 7-5, win.  Danielle Gryckiewicz (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Academy) closed out Saint Francis' side of the scoring with a win at the No. 5 singles spot.

The Red Flash travels to Monroeville on Friday, Feb. 20 at noon.
