LYNCHBURG, Va. (Mar. 21, 2015) - The Saint Francis University softball continued its strong play at the Liberty Softball Classic on Saturday as it ran its winning streak to a season-high ten games, defeating North Carolina Central, 5-0 and Rider, 4-1.
Big offensive outputs by
Taylor Parsons (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle) and
Nicole Paiotti (Oakland, N.J./Indian Hills) led the way for the Flash against NCCU. Parsons went 3-for-4 with two triples and Paiotti went 4-for-4 with an RBI.
Lindsey Reid (Bear, Del./Caravel Academy) knocked in two runs to aid in the offensive attack.
Alexis Bower (Cogan Station, Pa./Williamsport Area) got things started in the first inning as she lifted a 1-1 pitch to right to bring home Parsons who had tripled to open the game. Reid's two RBIs came in the second as she laced a single to center field to push SFU's lead to three.
Paiotti struck in the fifth as she singled with the bases loaded to increase the Flash's lead to five.
Ethel Santai (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove Area) (5-0) started the afternoon slate for SFU & dominated through five scoreless innings allowing three hits and striking out three.
Chelsea Rex (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) came out of the bullpen in the sixth to close out the game for Saint Francis. Rex worked two scoreless, striking out one in relief to run SFU's winning streak to nine in a row.
Blaire Lauthers (Doylesburg, Pa./Fannett-Metal) (5-2) started game number two of the evening, pitching five innings of one run ball with one walk, while striking out one. Santai (5-0, 3), game one's starter, came in and shut the door for her third save of the year working two scoreless innings.
SFU struck early in the second inning with a pair of doubles from
Jordan Seneca (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) and
Maggie Creciun (Norristown, Pa./Norristown). Parsons added an insurance run in the fifth with a sacrifice fly to right field. Rider came back in the top of the sixth to push its first run across the board. Rex then launched a towering home run over the center field wall to give the Flash back its three run lead. The victory ran the Flash's streak to ten games.
Saint Francis University will wrap up play at the Liberty Softball Classic tomorrow against Kent State. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m.
