WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (March 6, 2015) – The Saint Francis softball team wrapped up play at the Rebel Spring Games by splitting with Presbyterian and Akron. The Flash fell to PC 8-0 in game one of the day and stormed back to defeat the Zips, 5-1.
Â
In the day game versus the Blue Hose, errors forced SFU into an early hole. The Flash allowed four runs in the first and fourth innings.
Blaire Lauthers (Doylesburg, Pa./Fannett-Metal), who has been spectacular in the circle all season long, was tagged with her first loss of the season (3-1). The right-hander allowed eight runs; but only one earned over three and two-thirds innings of work.
Ethel Santai (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove Area) came in relief of Lauthers to close out the game.
Â
Saint Francis recorded two hits in the contest and it came off the bats of
Taylor Parsons (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle) and
Maggie Creciun (Norristown, Pa./Norristown).
Â
As the afternoon game rolled around, the Flash looked to rebound offensively against the Zips, and that it did. Though Akron outhit the Flash five to four, the Flash cashed in on three Zip errors to push across four runs in the second inning. After the offensive outburst, SFU never looked back. Â
Â
Santai, who closed out game one, started game two and went the distance throwing a complete game. The sophomore right-hander allowed one run on five hits while striking out one.
Â
Leading the way at the plate for the Flash was junior
Chelsea Rex (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola), who reached base twice, while adding an RBI.
Jordan Seneca (New Kensington, Pa./Plum) and
Madison Cabell (Ivor, Va./Southampton) both knocked in RBIs to aid the onslaught.
Â
Saint Francis improves to 8-4 on the season with the win over Akron. SFU has wrapped up play in Florida and will return to Loretto before hitting the road to play in the University of Delaware Tournament.
