WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 11, 2015) - The Saint Francis U men's tennis team won its fourth match in its past five attempts as it dropped Howard in the regular season finale, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon.
The Red Flash took all three matches in doubles play, led by
Washi Gervais (Longueuil, Quebec/College Stanislas) and Rodrico Tico, who won 8-6 at the No. 1 flight.
Lawson Barter (Chicago, Ill./Loyola) and
Alec Dylan Foo-Kune (Phoenix, Mauritius/International Connections Academy (Md.)) picked up an 8-0 shutout at No. 3. Foo-Kune, the reigning Northeast Conference and ECAC Rookie of the Week, also collected a win at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-2.
"This was a good way to end the regular season. Howard is a good team and we knew we had to compete hard in order to get the win. We haven't played much outside and the conditions were very windy, but I think it'll be good preparation for next week," said SFU head coach
Rob Castille.
Chris Jimenez (Bayside, N.Y./St. Francis Preparatory) earned Saint Francis a point at No. 4 singles, he won 7-5, 6-3.
Plamen Avuski (Plovdiv, Bulgaria /Math High School ) won at the No. 5 flight singles, 6-1, 6-1, while
Eli Cerdan (Bloomfield, N.J. /Saint Mary High School) won at No. 6, 6-1, 6-1.
Saint Francis makes the trek to West Windsor, N.J. this weekend for the Northeast Conference Championships.
"We'll look to make a few adjustments and will be ready to go at NECs," Castille continued.
