Towson Takes Two From Softball

TOWSON, Md. – Taylor Parsons (Bellefonte, Pa./Bald Eagle) had three hits in two games on Wednesday, but the Saint Francis softball team lost a pair of low-scoring games at Towson, 4-1 and 3-0, in non-conference action.

In game one, Blaire Lauthers (Doylesburg, Pa./Fannett-Metal) surrendered just one earned run in her three innings of work, but the Flash saw itself trailing 2-0 after five innings. In the top of the sixth, Parsons led off with a double. She was later retired at third base on a fielder's choice, but the play allowed Alexis Bower (Cogan Station, Pa./Williamsport Area) to reach. The next hitter was Madison Cabell (Ivor, Va./Southampton), and her double to right center brought Bower all the way around to make it 2-1 Towson. But the Tigers had the first four hitters reach base in its half of the sixth, and the fourth of those was a two-run single to right to expand the lead to 4-1.

In game two, the lone offense in a 3-0 Towson victory came in the bottom of the first. After back-to-back singles to open the frame, a three-run home run provided the only offense of the entire contest. But each team had chances to score after the first.

Towson loaded the bases after two outs in the bottom of the second, but Bower forced a fly out to right field to end the threat and to keep the score at 3-0. The Flash brought the tying run to the plate in the top of the fourth. Parsons and Ketarah DeVries (Forreston, Ill./Forreston) both singled in the inning, but a 4-6-3 double play finished the inning without a run crossing.

In the sixth, Parsons and Kindra Witthus (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) both singled after two outs, but DeVries flied out to center to end the inning and the Flash's final threat of the afternoon.

Saint Francis moves back into conference action this weekend as the Flash hosts doubleheaders for four consecutive days. The first comes on Saturday against Wagner in NEC action. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
