LORETTO, Pa. (April 30, 2015) – The Saint Francis University men's golf team is looking to make a statement at the Northeast Conference Championship this upcoming weekend in the Sunshine State.
The Red Flash had a bit of a lay-off following its home invitational, which was held on April 13-14. SFU placed fourth out of nine teams in that event and will look to improve on last season's sixth place finish in the NEC Championship.
SFU's best tournament of the spring came at LIU Brooklyn's Lonnie Barton Invitational in early March where the Flash finished second out of 11 teams.
Edward Maruca (Ebensburg, Pa./Central Cambria) posted a top-five finish at LPGA International, which is the course the NEC Championship is again being played on.
Maruca and
Shane Crampton (London, Ontario, Canada/Saunders Secondary) each posted an under-par round at the Red Flash Invitational and will look to lead the Flash this weekend. Crampton finished fifth overall at last seasons NEC's.
Kevin Fawcett (London, Ontario, Canada/Oakridge Secondary) will be competing in his fourth NEC Championship, he finished 39th for SFU last year. In 2013, Fawcett led the charge for SFU as it won its third title when he placed second overall.
Chris Stricek (Binghamton, N.Y./Windsor) will be playing in his second championship, he earned a 19th place finish in 2013.
Freshman
Brandon Mihalo (Windsor, Ontario, Canada/Holy Names Catholic) will make his NEC Championship debut, his best finish this season came at the Bucknell Fall Invitational at 17th overall.
The three-round championship begins tomorrow morning with a shotgun start.
