Men's Soccer Plays Pitt to Scoreless Draw

Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Saint Francis men's soccer team opened the 2015 season with a scoreless draw against the Pitt Panthers in an exhibition at Ambrose Urbanic Field.

The two teams were nearly even in shots with both teams putting four shots on net and the Panthers owning a slight 10-9 edge overall. Freshman Mario Mastrangelo (Venetia, Pa/Peters Township) led the Red Flash with a pair of shots on goal. Andres Vega (Managua, Nicaragua/Colegio Centro America) and Nicco Mastrangelo (Venetia, Pa/Peters Township) also put a shot on net. The Red Flash defense held strong across the 90 minutes, turning away all six of the Panthers' corner kicks. The Red Flash countered with one corner and were whistled for four offside.

Andrew Garcia (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek Regional) got the start in net and made a pair of saves in his 62 minutes of work. Fellow keeper Marcus Rojas (Fremont, Calif./Bellarmine College Preparatory) played the final 28 minutes in net and matched Garcia with two saves.

Saint Francis will wrap up their exhibition season on Saturday when they host the Cleveland State Vikings. Kick-off from DeGol Field is set for noon.
