Tennis Travels to Niagara, Buffalo This Weekend

LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis tennis teams, led by Rob Castille, head back on the road this weekend.  The men's and women's teams both take on Niagara on Friday at 5 p.m.  On Saturday, the women's team faces Buffalo on Saturday at 1 p.m.
 
The Saint Francis women's team is looking for its first win of the spring.  Last Friday, the Red Flash fell 4-2 at Howard.  On Saturday, SFU dropped a 6-1 decision.
 
Freshman Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School), junior Brittini Jentz (Plano, Texas/Ursuline Academy of Dallas) and junior Brittany Plaszewski (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) each picked up a win on the weekend.
 
Senior Rafaela Panizza (Jundiai, Brazil) and Plaszewski competed at the top doubles spot this past weekend.
 
The Niagara women's team is also playing its first dual match after going 11-8 in 2015.  Buffalo begins its spring season on Saturday.  The Bulls were 7-11 last season.
 
The Red Flash men went 2-0 on opening weekend with a 7-0 win at Howard and a 4-3 victory at Navy, the defending Patriot League Champions. 
 
Senior Washi Gervais (Longueuil, Quebec/College Stanislas) won both of his matches at the No. 1 singles position, defeating Howard's Ismael Kaouache(6-3, 6-0) and Navy's Aries Wong(7-6(5), 6-4).   Freshman Jan Vit Suntar (Cerklje na Gorenjskem, Slovenia/Gimnazija Kranj) also went 2-0 on the weekend, with victories against Howard's Laguna Foster Jr. (6-4, 6-1) and Navy's Joshua Martin (6-4, 6-2). 
 
Junior Plamen Avuski (Plovdiv, Bulgaria /Math High School ), Suntar and junior Rodrigo Tico (Guadalajara, Mexico/Colegio de Bachilleres) are tied for the team-lead with six wins each.
 
The doubles duos of sophomore Alec Dylan Foo-Kune (Phoenix, Mauritius/International Connections Academy (Md.))/Gervais and Avuski/Suntar each went 2-0. 
 
The Niagara men's team will be playing its first match of the spring on Friday.  The Purple Eagles finished with a 6-10 record in 2015.
