Swimming Travels To Boston College For Northeast Catholic Invitational

LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis swimming team is set to compete at the Northeast Catholic Invitational, hosted by Boston College, this weekend.  The two-day invitational begins on Friday at 5 p.m.
 
The Red Flash, led by Head Coach Rory Coleman, is coming off a first place finish at the Colgate Fall Classic, where it competed against six other schools.  Saint Francis totaled 940 points, finishing 100.5 points ahead of UMass.  SFU will compete this weekend against Assumption College, Boston College and Siena.

Saint Francis junior Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) earned five Top Three finishes on the weekend, including wins in three events.  Lafferty earned a first place finish in the 200-yard Freestyle, with a time of 1:56.32, as well as the 100-yard Freestyle, with a time of 53.69.  Lafferty also won the 100-yard Backstroke, with a time of 1:00.03.
 
The Indiana native finished second in the 50-yard Freestyle, with a time of 24.52, and third in the 500-yard Freestyle, with a pace of 5:14.98.
 
Freshman Karilyn Quon (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol) continued a strong start to her college career with four Top Three finishes and five Top Five finishes at the Invitational.  The rookie earned a win in the 200-yard Backstroke, with a time of 2:09.72, and the 500-yard Freestyle, with a time of 5:10.57.
 
Quon claimed second place in the 400-yard IM, with a pace of 4:35.00, and second place in the 200-yard Freestyle, with a time of 1:56.74.  In the 200-yard Breaststroke, Quon finished fifth, with a time of 2:23.34. 
 
Junior Emma Karell (Norrtälje, Sweden/Täby Swim Club) also earned five Top Five finishes, including three in the Top Three of her events.  The Red Flash junior finished second in the 200-yard IM, with a time of 2:12.14.  She also placed third in the 1,650-yard Freestyle, with a time of 18:22.23, and third in the 200-yard Butterfly, with a time of 2:13.49. 
 
The Sweden native picked up fifth place finishes in the 100-yard Breaststroke, with a pace of 1:08.74, and the 100-yard IM, with a pace of 1:01.75. 
 
Freshman Sabrina Bowman (Vandergrift, Pa./Saint Joseph's) earned Top Three finishes in the 100-yard Butterfly, 100-yard Backstroke and 100-yard IM.  Bowman posted a time of 58.52 in the 100-yard Butterfly.  Later in the meet, Bowman joined Lafferty in the Top Three of the 100-yard Backstroke, with a time of 1:00.33.  Bowman also recorded a time of 1:01.18 in the 100-yard IM.
 
Fellow rookie Aimee Baur (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) completed an all-SFU Top Three in the 100-yard Backstroke, with a time of 1:00.14 to place second.  She also had a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard Backstroke, with a time of 2:12.09, and a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard Freestyle, with a time of 1:59.09.
 
Freshman Erin O'Neill (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) finished in second in the 200-yard Breaststroke (2:28.57) and third in the 100-yard Breaststroke (1:07.55), while junior Natalie Tedjasukmana (Anaheim, Calif./Mater Dei) placed fifth in the 100-yard Freestyle, with a time of 54.79.
 
The Red Flash dominated the relays at the invitational, winning all three and setting meet records in all three events. 
 
In the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, O'Neill, Baur, Bowman and Lafferty earned the top time in the event, 1:38.63. 
 
Junior Alicia Tiberino (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill), freshman Emily Graziano (Jeannette, Pa./Penn Trafford), Tedjasukmana and Quon combined for a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, with a time of 1:40.33.
 
Saint Francis placed two relay teams in the Top Three of the 400-yard Freestyle Relay.  Baur, Bowman, Quon and Lafferty picked up the top spot in the event, with a time of 3:36.68. 
 
Tedjasukmana, Karell, Tiberino and O'Neill placed third in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay, with a time of 3:39.54.
 
In the 200-yard Medley Relay, Bowman, O'Neill, McLean and Lafferty won the event, with a pace of 1:49.17.
 
Quon, sophomore Jessica Crumm (New Hampton, N.Y./Minisink Valley), Tiberino and Baur combined for a time of 1:52.92 to finish fifth in the 200-yard Medley Relay.
