LORETTO, Pa. – In this edition of the Field Hockey Notebook, junior Kyra Castano (Laflin, Pa./James M. Coughlin) will be highlighted.
 
Castano is studying Finance and Accounting at Saint Francis. Last summer, Castano had an internship at the Luzerne County Courthouse in the budget and financing departments. This provided hands on experience organizing grants and gaining an understanding of how audits work within the state government.
 
When Castano graduates, she plans on getting her CPA certification. Castano already has an internship lined up with the full-service accounting firm Baker Tiller next summer and hopes to continue with the firm upon graduation.  
 
Being a Saint Francis student-athlete has given Castano the opportunity to understand what it is like to be part of a family and has allowed her to work toward her goals on the field and in the classroom.
 
"It takes a lot of commitment being a student-athlete, but I am a very proud to be one," she said.
 
Castano's commitment has paid off.  The junior carries a 4.0 GPA and has earned a starting spot this year.
 
" I am on a schedule and I know when I'll have time to do work," explained Castano. " So basically, my free time I use working on homework and then go play field hockey. I think being on the field hockey field lets me relieve the stress of my academic obligations."
 
Saint Francis takes on Davidson on Friday at 6 p.m.
