Tennis Hosts Two Matches This Weekend

LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis men's and women's tennis teams are hosting Bucknell and Temple this weekend for doubleheaders.  On Saturday, the teams will take on Bucknell at 3 p.m. at The Club Sport and Health in Monroeville, Pa.  On Sunday, the Red Flash welcomes Temple to the Greensburg Racquet Club for a pair of 9:30 a.m. matches.
 
The Red Flash men's team is 5-2 after splitting two matches this past weekend.  Saint Francis defeated Youngstown State, 4-3, on Friday, but fell 6-1 to Carnegie Mellon on Saturday.  Carnegie Mellon is ranked 11th in the ITA Division III Poll. 
 
Senior Washi Gervais (Longueuil, Quebec/College Stanislas) picked up two wins at the top singles spot to improve to 7-0 this spring.  Sophomore Alec Dylan Foo-Kune (Phoenix, Mauritius/International Connections Academy (Md.)) and freshman Jan Vit Suntar (Cerklje na Gorenjskem, Slovenia/Gimnazija Kranj) each contributed a singles win this weekend. 
 
Foo-Kune and Gervais earned a doubles win at the top position, while junior Plamen Avuski (Plovdiv, Bulgaria /Math High School ) and Suntar picked up a win at No. 3, against Youngstown State.
 
Gervais leads the team with seven wins this spring, while Suntar has five.  Foo-Kune has four victories, while Avuski, junior Eli Cerdan (Bloomfield, N.J. /Saint Mary High School) and Rodrigo Tico (Guadalajara, Mexico/Colegio de Bachilleres) each have three.
 
At No. 1 doubles, Foo-Kune and Gervais are 6-3 in dual matches, while Avuski and Suntar are 5-2, splitting time at No. 2 and No. 3.
 
Bucknell is 3-2 this season.  Last weekend, they lost 6-1 at No. 47 Penn State.  The Bison have wins over Le Moyne, La Salle and Niagara this spring. 
 
Temple owns an 8-1 record, including wins against East Carolina (4-3) and UConn (5-2) last weekend.  The Owls also have wins against LaSalle(2), Richmond, Rider, St. Francis Brooklyn and Wagner. 
 
The Red Flash women's team is 1-6 after dropping a 5-2 decision against Carnegie Mellon on Saturday.  The Tartans are ranked No. 6 in the ITA Division III Poll. 
 
Freshman Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School) and senior Dani Gryckiewicz (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Academy) each collected a singles win against CMU.  Gryckiewicz and freshman Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) earned a doubles win at No. 2.
 
Bode, Gryckiewicz, junior Brittini Jentz (Plano, Texas/Ursuline Academy of Dallas), Miller and junior Brittany Plaszewski (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) all have two singles wins, while senior Rafaela Panizza (Jundiai, Brazil) has one win at the No. 1 position.
 
Bode and Gryckiewicz are 2-1 in doubles, with wins at No. 1 and No. 2.
 
This weekend is Bucknell's season-opening weekend.  The Bison play Youngstown State on Friday before the Red Flash on Saturday. 
 
Temple is 4-2 this spring.  The Owls fell 4-3 against Cincinnati last weekend, but have wins against La Salle, Drexel, East Carolina and Rider.
