LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis men's and women's tennis teams, led by Head Coach
Rob Castille, travel to take on a couple in-state rivals this weekend. On Saturday, the Red Flash visits Lafayette. Both teams play 3 p.m. matches. On Sunday, SFU faces Lehigh, with the women playing at 10 a.m. and the men at 2 p.m.
The Saint Francis men's tennis team is off to a 3-0 start for the first time in program history. The Red Flash has defeated Howard(7-0), Navy(4-3) and Niagara(7-0).
Senior
Washi Gervais (Longueuil, Quebec/College Stanislas) and
Jan Vit Suntar (Cerklje na Gorenjskem, Slovenia/Gimnazija Kranj) are each 3-0 this spring, with Gervais' wins coming at the No. 1 singles spot.
Junior
Eli Cerdan (Bloomfield, N.J. /Saint Mary High School), sophomore
Alec Dylan Foo-Kune (Phoenix, Mauritius/International Connections Academy (Md.)), junior
Rodrigo Tico (Guadalajara, Mexico/Colegio de Bachilleres) and freshman
Robin van der Heijden (Burgh Haamstede, Netherlands/Scheldmond College) each have victories this spring.
Suntar and Tico are tied for the team lead with seven overall wins, while Foo-Kune and junior
Plamen Avuski (Plovdiv, Bulgaria /Math High School ) each have six wins.
Foo-Kune and Gervais have combined to go 3-0 at the top doubles spot. Avuski and Suntar are also 3-0 at the No. 3 position. Tico and van der Heijden are 1-2 at the second spot.
Lafayette will make its spring debut on Saturday, while Lehigh plays Drexel on Saturday before matching up against the Red Flash on Sunday.
The Saint Francis women's tennis team is looking for its first win this season after an 0-4 start. Junior Brittany Plaszeweski has two wins this spring, with one each at No. 2 and No. 3 singles. Freshman
Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) and junior
Brittini Jentz (Plano, Texas/Ursuline Academy of Dallas) each have one win.
Bode and Plaszewski hold the team lead with five wins each. Senior
Dani Gryckiewicz (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Academy) and freshman
Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School) each have four victories.
At No. 1 doubles, Panizza and Plaszewski have one win this spring and three wins overall.
The Leopards will play their first match this spring. The Mountain Hawks are 0-1 this spring and will take on Drexel on Saturday before playing the Red Flash on Sunday.
