Live Stats LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis softball team takes on Grand Canyon on Wednesday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader to continue its Spring Break trip.
The Red Flash is 7-8 this season after a 1-3 weekend at the Diamond Devil Invitational. Saint Francis competed well against a couple of the top teams in the nation in No. 19 Arizona State and No. 21 Minnesota. The Red Flash earned a 10-1 win in five innings against Mount St. Mary's.
Saint Francis plays in the Arizona Wildcat Invitational this upcoming weekend. The Red Flash faces No. 10 James Madison and UTEP on Friday. SFU battles Mount St. Mary's and No. 15 Arizona on Saturday.
SMASHING SENECASophomore shortstop
Jordan Seneca (Plum, Pa./Plum) won NEC Player of the Week for the second straight week after hitting three home runs, including a grand slam, and driving in eight runs at the Diamond Devil Invitational.
Seneca hit two home runs in a 12-9 loss against Arizona State on Saturday. She hit a solo home run to center in the fourth inning, before launching a grand slam in the sixth inning.
She followed that performance with a three-run homer against Mount St. Mary's on Sunday.
Seneca leads the team in batting average (.404), hits (19), doubles (4), home runs (6), RBI (24) and slugging percentage (.872).
Through 15 games, Seneca has six multi-hit performances and six multi-RBI games. She had five RBI in wins over UNC Wilmington and UMass and the loss against ASU, with homers in all three games. She also homered against Eastern Kentucky.
Seneca is tied for ninth in Division I in home runs and sixth in RBI.
LAUTHERS, NORTON HONORED BY NECJunior pitcher
Blaire Lauthers (Doylesburg, Pa./Fannett-Metal) and freshman
Hayley Norton (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) joined Seneca to sweep the NEC Weekly Awards.
Lauthers threw four innings to earn the win against Mount St. Mary's. She allowed only one run, unearned, on four hits, while striking out one and walking one.
On the year, Lauthers leads the SFU pitching staff with a 2.63 ERA in 24 innings, with a 3-2 record.
Norton continued an impressive rookie campaign with two home runs and four RBI this past weekend, with at least a hit and an RBI in the last three games.
Norton hit a home run in each game Sunday against Mount St. Mary's and Arizona State. She scored three runs against The Mount.
On the season, Norton is batting .354 with 17 hits, including three doubles, three triples, four home runs and 19 RBI. She also has 12 runs scored, while hitting second in the lineup.
RAMSAIER RETURNS TO ARIZONASenior
Aly Ramsaier (Mesa, Ariz./Mountain View) returned to her native state for Spring Break. The Mesa native started three games this past weekend, with two at second base and one at first base.
In Saturday's game against Arizona State, Ramsaier went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. In the top of the fourth, Ramsaier singled to left to drive in
Kassidy Troxell (Navarre, Ohio/Perry). Ramsaier added a single in the top of the sixth.
The senior scored a run in each game on Sunday and drew a walk against Mount St. Mary's.
SCOUTING THE ANTELOPESGrand Canyon enters the doubleheader with a 12-5 record, including a 9-2 mark at home. In last weekend's GCU Invitational, the Antelopes went 3-2 with wins over Northern Illinois (11-3), Montana (10-2) and Texas State (10-0).
Six Antelopes have a batting average over .400, with Nicole Newbury and Camree Wartman leading at .483. Wartman has three home runs and 12 RBI. Shea Smith is hitting .475 with 28 hits, including 11 doubles, a triple and a homer, while Madelyn Dowdle leads the team with four home runs to go with a .415 average.
The Grand Canyon pitching staff owns a team ERA of 3.43. Taylor Nowlin is 4-2 in nine appearances, including seven starts and five complete games. She has a 1.79 ERA in 47 innings, while striking out 41 batters and walking 19. Opposing hitters are batting .188 against Nowlin.
