LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis men's and women's tennis teams, led by Head Coach
Rob Castille, will host two matches this weekend at The Club Sport and Health in Monroeville. The Red Flash takes on Hartford at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday and St. Bonaventure at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
The Red Flash women's team is 2-8 this season after defeating Saint Joseph's, 4-3, on Monday. SFU swept the doubles action and got singles wins by junior
Brittany Plaszewski (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North), freshman
Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) and senior
Dani Gryckiewicz (Calgary, Alberta/Calgary Academy).
Gryckiewicz leads Saint Francis with four wins this spring, with three coming at the No. 6 position. She has seven overall wins. Bode and Plaszewski each have three dual match wins, while junior
Brittini Jentz (Plano, Texas/Ursuline Academy of Dallas) has two and senior
Rafaela Panizza (Jundiai, Brazil) has a win at No. 1.
In doubles, Panizza and Plaszewski picked up their second win this season at No. 1 in the win over Saint Joseph's. Bode and Gryckiewicz improved to 3-3, playing mostly at No. 2, while Jentz and Miller also moved to 3-3, playing mostly at No. 3.
Hartford is 4-9 this season after a 7-0 loss against Hofstra last weekend. The Hawks have wins over Monmouth (4-3), Saint Peter's (7-0), Fairfield (6-1) and Bentley (6-1).
St. Bonaventure enters the weekend with a 2-10 record. They fell 5-2 against Saint Joseph's on Tuesday. The Bonnies have wins over Mercyhurst (5-2) and Slippery Rock (5-2).
The Red Flash men's team is 6-4 this year. SFU dropped a 5-2 decision on Monday vs. Saint Joseph's. Saint Francis won the doubles points, with victories at No. 1 and 2, and got a singles win from junior
Plamen Avuski (Plovdiv, Bulgaria /Math High School ).
Senior
Washi Gervais (Longueuil, Quebec/College Stanislas) leads the team with seven wins this spring at No. 1. Freshman
Jan Vit Suntar (Cerklje na Gorenjskem, Slovenia/Gimnazija Kranj) has six dual match wins, with the last three coming at the third position.
Avuski and sophomore
Alec Dylan Foo-Kune (Phoenix, Mauritius/International Connections Academy (Md.)) each have five wins, while junior
Eli Cerdan (Bloomfield, N.J. /Saint Mary High School) has four.
Foo-Kune and Gervais are 8-2 this year at the top doubles spot. Avuski and Suntar have paired up to go 7-3.
Hartford has a 1-9 record this season. Last weekend, the Hawks lost 4-3 to Hofstra. The Hawks defeated Saint Peter's (6-1) earlier this season.
St. Bonaventure is 3-7 this year. The Bonnies also dropped a 5-2 decision against Saint Joseph's earlier in the week after earning a 5-2 win against Niagara last Friday. The Bonnies also have two wins this year against Niagara as well as one against Mercyhurt (6-1).
