Women's Lacrosse Begins NEC Play This Weekend Against SHU, LIU

LORETTO, Pa. – After nearly a two-week layoff, the Saint Francis women's lacrosse team welcomes Sacred Heart and LIU Brooklyn for a pair of conference games this weekend at DeGol Field. The game against SHU is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday, while the game against LIU is set for noon on Sunday.
 
Saint Francis has won two straight contests and looks for their first conference victory since the 2014 season.
 
SFU will aim for their first-ever victory against SHU. Sacred Heart holds a 14-0 all-time advantage over Saint Francis. The Flash fell to the Pioneers, 16-6, last season at Sacred Heart.
 
Saint Francis' last conference win was against LIU Brooklyn in 2014 in a double-overtime thriller, 10-9. The Flash lost a hard-fought game last season, 11-10, against the Blackbirds.
 
The Pioneers hold a 4-4 record on the season. Sacred Heart defeated Brown, 13-9, last Saturday. Caitlin Delaney's 24 goals lead the Pioneers and are second in the NEC in goals per game (3.00). Delaney is second in assists per game (1.38), first in points per game (4.38) and first in caused turnovers per game (3.12) in the NEC.
 
LIU Brooklyn is 4-6 on the season. The Blackbirds fell in a close contest to Iona last Friday, 14-11. Jenn Peters powers the Blackbirds offense. The junior averages 3.50 games per game, which is first in the NEC and ranks second in points per game (4). Peters averages 7.50 shots per game, which also ranks first in the conference.
 
The Flash is 3-6 on the season. Saint Francis held off a late rally from St. Bonaventure to win, 16-14. Sarah Mahon (Malverne, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) powered the Flash with four goals on the day. Mahon is tied for the team lead with 25 points, and ranks in the NEC top-10 in both goals per game (2.11) and points per game (2.78).
