LORETTO, PA- The Red Flash women's soccer team embarks on their first road trip of the season this weekend, taking on the Loyola (MD) Greyhounds on Thursday night and West Virginia on Sunday afternoon.
ABOUT THE FLASH
Saint Francis is coming off a pair of tough 1-0 defeats against George Washington and Bucknell last weekend. Both teams were picked to finish second in their respective leagues (A-10, Patriot).
Julia Hernan (Pottstown, Pa./The Hill School) made 17 saves across the two matches. The Flash counter-attacked well in both matches, drawing several prime scoring chances led by
Gabi Morales (Madrid, Spain/Colegio La Inmaculada-Marillac) who leads the team with five shots, four on goal.
ABOUT THE GREYHOUNDS
Loyola comes into the match at 2-0 after home wins over Mount Saint Mary's (3-1) and UMBC (2-0). Juliana Cabrera earned the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week last week after netting a pair of goals in the win over the Mount. The Greyhounds were picked fifth in the Patriot League pre-season poll and Nicole Wahlig returns after being named All-Patriot League last season. These two teams met last year in Loretto in a game that was started at the Stokes SoccerPlex but finished at DeGol Field after a lengthy weather delay. Loyola defeated SFU 2-1.
ABOUT THE MOUNTAINEERS
WVU comes into the match as the number seven team in the latest national coaches' poll at 1-0-1. The Mountaineers tied Penn State 1-1 in Happy Valley and defeated Buffalo at home 2-0 last weekend. WVU played both matches without MAC Hermann watch list players Kadeisha Buchanan and Ashley Lawrence who won a bronze medal while playing for Canada at the Rio Olympics. WVU was picked to win the Big 12 this season for the fourth year in a row. These teams have not met since a home-and-home in 1996 and 97 where WVU won both times.
