LORETTO, PA- Fresh off their first win of the season, a 2-0 home victory over the Loyola (MD) Greyhounds, the Red Flash will take to the road this weekend traveling to the Buckeye State to face Dayton and Cincinnati.
Â
ABOUT THE FLASH
Saint Francis rebounded nicely from a tough OT loss to Duquesne last Friday in their win over Loyola. The freshmen have stepped up early for SFU, especially offensively with newcomers
Renan Fuentes (Sao Paolo, Brazil/Colegio Joao XXIII) (Friday) and
CJ Smolyn (Holland, PA/Germantown Academy) (Monday) tallying their first collegiate goals through two matches.
Jack Webber (Bernville, Pa./Tulpehocken) added insurance in Monday's victory for the senior's first goal of the 2016 season. Defensively, the Flash have held their opponents to just six shots on goal through two matches, including none against Loyola.
Marcus Rojas (Fremont, Calif./Bellarmine College Preparatory) has made four saves on the young season and holds a .95 goals against average.
Â
ABOUT THE FLYERS
Dayton was picked second in a talented A-10 conference but has struggled out of the gate falling at Cleveland State 3-0 and 2-0 at home to Western Michigan. Saint Francis will have to try and slow down Rok Taneski who leads UD with seven shots so far this year and Lalas Abubakar, an All-Region and All A-10 defender. In goal, Oliver Hansen and Justin Saliba have both gotten a start in goal.
Â
These two teams have met once before in the 2007 Dayton tournament where the Flyers won 1-0.
Â
ABOUT THE BEARCATS
Cincinnati was picked seventh in the American Athletic Conference and defeated IPFW 3-0 in Fort Wayne in their only match so far this season. UC is trying to replace their top three scorers from a season ago. Like SFU, Cincinnati is welcoming in 11 newcomers to the squad this season. Austin Smythe, a transfer from Radford, scored in his first match as a Bearcat last weekend. The Red Flash will have to slow down Smythe and Adam Wilson, UC's leading returning scorer. Pedro Diaz made five saves in the win over the Mastodons and held a 1.54 goals against average and a.747 save percentage in 13 matches last season.
Â
These two teams met once before in 2012, with SFU winning at UC 1-0.
