LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis men's tennis team travels to Mason, Ohio this weekend for the Greater Cincinnati Invitational. The tournament is hosted by Dayton and Northern Kentucky.
The Red Flash competed at the Bucknell Invitational last weekend, where it went a combined 11-6 in singles and 5-2 in doubles.
Freshman
Arturo Dell'eva (Verona, Italy/Sanchez Casal Tennis Academy) is 3-0 after his first weekend of collegiate action. After receiving a first round bye, Dell'eva knocked off Loyola (Md.)'s Jack Shortell (6-0, 6-2), Bucknell's Timber Erskine (6-4, 7-5) and teammate
Plamen Avuski (Plovdiv, Bulgaria /Math High School ) (7-5, 7-5) to win his singles flight.
Avuski earned three wins on the weekend, while freshman
Franz Luna (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Laurel Springs) and sophomore
Jan Vit Suntar (Cerklje na Gorenjskem, Slovenia/Gimnazija Kranj) each had two. Junior
Alec Dylan Foo-Kune (Phoenix, Mauritius/International Connections Academy (Md.)) picked up a win.
In doubles, senior
Eli Cerdan (Bloomfield, N.J. /Saint Mary High School) and Luna combined to win their draw. The duo defeated Mount St. Mary's Chris Lindsey and Sean McNulty, 6-2, in the first round. In the semifinals, they knocked off Colgate's Alec Dardis and Dean Koman, 6-1. In the final, Cerdan and Luna took down Mount St. Mary's Darren Mast and Brandon Wortkotter, 7-5.
Avuski and Dell'eva paired up for a win, while Foo-Kune and Suntar teamed up for a victory.
