LOCK HAVEN, Pa.  – The Saint Francis field hockey team picked up its first A-10 win with a 2-1 victory against Lock Haven on Friday afternoon at Charlotte E. Smith Field.

Saint Francis (7-4; 1-1) earned their fourth straight win against Lock Haven (5-4; 2-2).

The Lock Haven defense bottled up Saint Francis' offense in the early going of the first half. LHU had a few changes in the first 28 minutes, but could not find the back of the net.

Brianna Govia (St. James, Trinidad/Holy Name) scored her first goal of the season to put the Red Flash on the board at the 32-minute mark. Govia drove baseline and beat Lock Haven's starting goalie Paige Stuppy near post to give Saint Francis the 1-0 lead.

The Flash would take the one-goal lead into halftime.

Both teams traded scoring chances to open the second period but neither team could gain the upper hand.

Saint Francis went up 2-0 on a Shannon Pereira (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Francis Libermann Catholic) goal, as she scored off a hard shot by Carly Gromel (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) in the 55th minute.

With less than seven minutes to play, Tamia Roach scored for Lock Haven to narrow the deficit to one. LHU pressured in the closing minutes of the match and created a number of scoring chances. Elizabeth Dyer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) came up huge when Lock Haven earned a penalty corner as time expired. Dyer turned away a Roach shot to seal the victory.

Dyer finished with six saves in the win. Lock Haven held an 8-6 advantage in penalty corners and outshot Saint Francis 14-6.
