SFU hosts FDU in critical senior day showdown

Live Sunday: Stats | Video

Loretto, Pa. –
The top two teams in the NEC standings meet on Sunday when the Red Flash host Fairleigh Dickinson on Sunday, Oct. 22, at 1 p.m.

Scouting Fairleigh Dickinson

The Knights, 6-7-2 overall, are off to a 4-0 start in conference with a match at Robert Morris on Friday. The Knights enter the weekend with the third-ranked scoring offense in the conference at 1.57 goals per game. Freshmen Sofia Albertsson and Viktorija Miseljic lead FDU in scoring with 16 and 14 points, respectively. Albertsson leads the conference with seven goals, while Miseljic has contributed five goals and four assists. Elma Kolenovic and Jessi Reinhardt, a pair of first team all-conference performers from 2016, follow. Kolenovic is second on the team with six goals, while Reinhardt leads the team with five assists. Fairleigh Dickinson has recorded clean sheets in four of its last five matches.

Series History

Saint Francis is 11-13-3 all-time vs. the Knights. The teams split the series last season with FDU winning in the regular season and SFU winning in the semifinals, 2-0.

Senior Day Fun

Sunday holds extra significance as it will be senior day for Siobhan Bross (Danville, Pa./Danville Area), Leah Hardin (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen), Allison LaDuke (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) and Gabi Morales (Madrid, Spain/Colegio La Inmaculada-Marillac). The class will be sorely missed as all four have produced at a high level, culminating in a championship in 2016. Bross, a fifth-year senior, also won a championship as a freshman in 2013. Morales is a three-time all-conference selection, Bross is a two-time selection and LaDuke made the second team in 2016. The quartet has combined for 90 career points on 29 goals and 32 assists. The senior day ceremony will be streamed live on NEC FrontRow beginning at 12:45 p.m.

McGhee's Magic

Sophomore Alyssa McGhee (Altoona, Pa./Bishop Guilfoyle) has recorded 19 points through 15 games, which ties the total registered by 2016 Golden Boot Award Winner, Gabi Morales (Madrid, Spain/Colegio La Inmaculada-Marillac). If McGhee can record one more point, it will be the highest total since Tesa McKibben recorded 54 in 2013 on 20 goals and 14 assists.

Race to Host

Sunday's showdown will go a long ways in determining who will host the 2017 NEC Tournament, awarded to the team with the highest point total at the end of the season. FDU and SFU enter the week tied for the lead with 12 points, but the Knights own a game in hand. The good news for Saint Francis is that it controls its own fate. The Red Flash will clinch hosting duties with wins in its final three matches. A win over FDU on Sunday clinches a playoff berth.
