New Britain, Conn- Your Saint Francis cross country squads both brought home bronze honors at the NEC Championships on Saturday. The men finished with 59 points and the women finished with 69.
Bryce England (Williamsburg, Pa./Williamsburg, Pa.) completed a great run by winning the individual title by 17.6 seconds with an overall time of 25:37. It was a phenomenal performance by the Red Flash star which earned him the NEC Outstanding Performer award.
Teammates Zack White (Imperial, Pa./West Allegheny) and Thomas Somerville (Perth, Ontatio, Canada/Perth and District Collegiate Institute) placed 11th and 12th respectively with marks of 26:46 and 26:46.7.
Another pair of Red Flash runners completed the course running right behind each other. Ian Gabig (Camp Hill, Pa./West Scranton) was the fifth best freshman in the race posting a 17th overall finish while clocking in at 27:01. Mike Strosko (Eighty-Four, Pa./Canon-McMillan) was four seconds behind Gabig in his 18th place spot with a time of 27:05.
England, White and Somerville all earned placements on the NEC All-Conference team.
Senior Morgan Kiebler (Export, Pa./Kiski Area) led the Red Flash women with a mark of 18:12 good enough for 8th overall. Â
Hannah Dorian (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) closed out the top ten registering a time of 18:16. Danae Peters (Manheim, Pa./Manheim Central) finished in 14th place with a mark of 18:36.
Angel Barber (Camp Hill, Pa./East Pennsboro) and Hannah Jones (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) raced to the finish line neck-to-neck with Barber calling upon all her experience to narrowly edge out the freshman Jones. Â The duo claimed the 17th and 18th spots correspondingly with times of 18:55.3 and 18:55.8.
Catie Jaskowak (Grove City, Pa./Grove City Area)'s placement of 21st did not figure into the team's scoring but her time of 18:56 was a mere second away from qualifying for points.
Kiebler, Dorian and Peters all earned spots on the NEC All-Conference team.
