BOX SCORE Philadelphia, Pa- The Saint Francis Red Flash field hockey suffered an 8-0 defeat against Saint Joseph's on a balmy Saturday afternoon. The Red Flash fall to 7-5 overall and 3-1 in A-10 conference play.
Turning Point
The game was scoreless for the first 15 minutes as both teams battled evenly. Then the proverbial roof fell in for the Red Flash. In a span of six minutes, the Hawks scored three goals slamming the door on the competitive game. The chance of a second half Red Flash rally passed away when the Hawks completed a second six-minute flurry of goals to make the score 6-0.Â
Highlights
·       In the 15th minute, Quinn Maguire dribbled through the defense and beat goalkeeper Elizabeth Dyer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) for the icebreaker goal.
·       Four minutes later, Connie Gerber scored off a deflected corner shot to make it 2-0.
·       At the 21st minute, Emily Henry found Anna Willocks wide open at the near post and passed across the arc. Willocks deposited it in the goal for a 3-0 lead which remained the lead until halftime.
·       The Hawks came flying out of the half as Henry again assisted a teammate this time being Jordan Olenginski.
·       Three minutes later, Anna Willocks scored her second goal of the game off a Red Flash turnover. Willocks launched a rocket shot into the corner of the pen to make it a nickel lead.
·       At the 42nd minute, Anna Willocks added an assist to her scorecard. Willocks passed off the corner to the stickstop and Pepa Serrano finished the transaction to register a 6-0 score.
·       During the 48th minute, Kathrin Bentz assisted off a deflected corner shot to allow Joely Helder to score her third goal of the season.
·       Saint Joseph's goal, in the 56th minute, finished off the scoring. Bentz, once again off a deflected corner shot, provided the assist this time to Emily Peters. The sequence finalized the score at 8-0.
Notes
·       Saint Francis did not record a shot in the first half and finished the game out-shot by Saint Joseph's 22-2.
·       Saint Joseph's earned 12 penalty corners. Saint Francis had one.
·       Elizabeth Dyer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) played 40:50 minutes in the pen. Claudia Marzec (Whitinsville, Mass./Moses Brown School) logged 29:10 minutes. Both goalkeepers had four saves.
