SFU looks to go 3-0 in conference Sunday vs. RMU

Live Sunday: Stats | Video

Loretto, Pa. –
The Saint Francis women's soccer team (5-6-1, 2-0-0 NEC) will look to capitalize on the momentum built from its six-point weekend when it hosts Robert Morris on Sunday, Oct. 8, at 1 p.m.

Scouting Robert Morris

Robert Morris lost a pair of one-goal games to open conference play, falling to Bryant 2-1 in double overtime and then 1-0 to Sacred Heart. The Colonials are 2-9 on the season. Nine of their 10 goals have been split between Jane Schleicher and Kristina Kelley. Schleicher leads the team with five goals, while Kelley has netted four goals to go along with four assists. Five of the Colonials' last six losses have been by one goal.

Series History

Saint Francis is 17-6-2 all-time vs. Robert Morris, winning last year's match 2-0. Sara Suler (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) and Leah Hardin (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) scored goals for the Red Flash.

"Sideline Cancer" Game

Sunday's game will be one of SFU's Sideline Cancer games. Sideline Cancer is a registered trademark of the Griffith Family Foundation, whose mission it is to fund a cure for cancer and to offer hope for those in need.

SFU Sideline Cancer hosts various Sideline Cancer games within our Division I athletics teams. Money raised is used to help members of the University community who are dealing with cancer issues.

Barnett Doubles Up

Freshman midfielder Emilee Barnett (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) doubled up as the NEC Rookie and Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Barnett played an instrumental role in Saint Francis's 2-0 weekend to open conference play, scoring goals in wins over Sacred Heart and Bryant. Her tally against Sacred Heart, the first of her career, gave the Red Flash a 2-0 cushion at the half. She then scored the game-winning goal in the 49th minute of a 2-1 win over Bryant on Sunday. For the week, she recorded five shots and three shots on goal.

Starting Fast

SFU's 2-0 start to conference play is nothing new under head coach Brenda van Stralen. The Red Flash has won its first two conference games in six of the past seven seasons, the only exception coming last year in a 3-2 overtime loss to Fairleigh Dickinson in the conference opener.

Protecting the Home Field

Saint Francis allowed its first goal in 360 minutes of action on its home field in Sunday's 2-1 win over Bryant. The Red Flash are 4-0 at home this season and has won its last 10 home games dating back to last season.
