Unchartered Territory: La Salle Defeats Saint Francis 3-2.

Philadelphia, Pa- The Saint Francis field hockey suffered its second defeat of the weekend losing 3-2 to La Salle. With the loss, the Red Flash are now 7-6 overall and 3-2 in A-10 conference play.

Turning Point

In the 67th minute with the score 2-1 in favor of La Salle, the Explorers tacked on another goal courtesy of April Stein. The 3-1 margin efficiently shut the door on any Red Flash comeback.

Highlights

·        From the 8th to the 11th minute, the Red Flash had a multitude of opportunities to score but the Explorers proved to be unyielding.

·        In the 22nd minute, Brianna Govia (St. James, Trinidad/Holy Name) found herself in a one-on-one with the goalkeeper. She expertly outmaneuvered her opposition and delivered a long shot into the right corner of the goal to put the Red Flash up 1-0.

·        The remainder of the period saw few threats by either team as both squads stiffened against any offensive attacks.

·         In the 44th minute, La Salle tied the game on a Chloe Lucky goal. Summer Pierson provided the assistance in an unusual way. Lucky, amid Red Flash traffic, tipped in Pierson's shot.

·        La Salle was not satisfied with the tie game. Nine minutes later, the Explorers captured the lead with a Megan Kida goal.

·        In the 67th minute, the turning point of the game occurred as April Stein received a pass from Mackenzie Karcher and scored on a sizzling strike to put the contest away.

·        Right at the closing whistle, Hannah Retherford (Benton, Pa./Benton) deposited a goal to salvage some pride. The final score ended up La Salle 3 Saint Francis 2.

Notes

·        La Salle outshot Saint Francis 16-12.

·        The Explorers received nine penalty corners to the Red Flash's six.

·        Elizabeth Dyer (Berwick, Pa./Berwick) played all 70 minutes in the cage and had eight saves.

Up Next

The Red Flash remain on the road as they play at Hofstra next Sunday in a nonconference matchup.
