LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis men's tennis team is set to compete against Carnegie Mellon and St. Francis Brooklyn this weekend, with both matches at The Club Sport and Health in Monroeville. Saturday's match against Carnegie Mellon will start at 5 p.m., with Sunday's contest against the Terriers starting at 9 a.m.
The Red Flash, led by Head Coach
Rob Castille, is 3-2 this spring and will play its NEC opener on Sunday. SFU was off last weekend after falling 6-1 against Youngstown State on January 28.
Freshman
Franz Luna (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Laurel Springs) is 5-0 in singles this spring, playing all of his matches at No. 2. Luna is 12-3 overall. Sophomore
Jan Vit Suntar (Cerklje na Gorenjskem, Slovenia/Gimnazija Kranj) is 4-0 in dual matches, playing at No. 4 and No. 6, while freshman
Arturo Dell'eva (Verona, Italy/Sanchez Casal Tennis Academy) is 3-0 at No. 4. Suntar has nine overall wins, while Dell'eva is 8-1 overall.
Junior
Alec Dylan Foo-Kune (Phoenix, Mauritius/International Connections Academy (Md.)) has two wins at the No. 1 position, with seniors
Plamen Avuski (Plovdiv, Bulgaria /Math High School ) and
Rodrigo Tico (Guadalajara, Mexico/Colegio de Bachilleres) also owning two singles wins.
Foo-Kune and Tico have combined for a 3-2 record at the top doubles spot. Luna and sophomore
Robin van der Heijden (Burgh Haamstede, Netherlands/Scheldmond College) are 2-3 this spring, playing at No. 2 and No. 3.
Carnegie Mellon is ranked No. 7 in the ITA Division III Poll. The Tartans are 2-2 with wins over Christopher Newport (9-0) and Oberlin (9-0) and losses to Duquesne (5-2) and St. Joseph's (6-1).
The Tartans' Michael Rozenvasser is ranked fourth in the ITA Division III Singles Poll. He has an 11-4 overall record, including 3-1 in dual matches. Daniel Levine is 4-1 in dual matches, including a 3-1 mark at No. 1, and is ranked 30th.
Levine has combined with Vayum Arora for a 3-0 doubles record at No. 1 and a No. 11 ranking in the ITA Division III Doubles Poll.
St. Francis Brooklyn is 2-5 this season, with an 0-1 mark in the NEC. The Terriers have wins over Rider (6-1) and Siena (5-2).
