Lacrosse heads South for games at Presbyterian, Gardner-Webb

Sunday: Live Stats

Loretto, Pa. – Saint Francis lacrosse (1-1) looks to build on the momentum from its 15-10 victory at Radford last weekend with upcoming games at  Presbyterian (Feb. 26) and Gardner-Webb (Feb. 28).

Scouting Presbyterian

Presbyterian went 2-16 in 2016 and is 0-2 to open its 2017 season with losses to Mercer and Furman. Alexandra Cole leads the team with six points on four goals and two assists. Lauren Schaaf is tied with Cole for the team-lead in goals with four.

Scouting Gardner-Webb

Gardner-Webb went 4-13 a season ago with one of its wins coming against Saint Francis, 12-11. Jessica Fischetti (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) and Sarah Mahon (Malverne, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) scored two goals each for the Red Flash. The Runnin' Bulldogs dropped its season opener to Virginia Tech 21-5 and takes on Mercer in its second contest today.  Amanda Steinmuller led the way with two goals and an assist in the loss to the Hokies while Cassidy McDowell scored two goals.

Lawrence named NEC Player of the Week

Senior midfielder Holly Lawrence (Damascus, Md./Damascus)'s career-high six goal performance at Radford not only led the Red Flash to victory but also earned her NEC Player of the Week honors.  It was the first career honor for the second team all-conference performer and fifth leading goal scorer in school history.

McKee Makin' Saves

Senior goalie Heather McKee (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright Bel Air) (Bel Air, Md.) stepped up in the win at Radford with eight saves, just two off her career-high. McKee has totaled 287 career saves, the third most in program history.

High-Powered Attack

The Saint Francis attack continues to be one of the most dangerous in the NEC. Through its first two games, the Red Flash sit atop the league in goals per game at a clip of 12.50 per contest. Part of the reason for the success can be attributed to its ability to win draw controls and ground balls. Saint Francis leads the conference in ground balls per game (30.50) and draw controls per game (17.50). Lawrence leads the team in goals and draw controls while Jessica Mazzur (Dallastown, Pa./York Catholic) (Dallastown, Pa.) leads in ground balls.
