Pittsburgh, Pa. - The Saint Francis lacrosse team (3-2) will play its fifth and final game of its road swing on Thursday, Mar. 16, at Duquesne at 4 p.m. The game was originally scheduled to be played Wednesday but was moved back due to weather.
Scouting Duquesne
The Dukes are 1-3 with an 11-10 win over Detroit Mercy and losses to Penn State, Ohio State and Canisius. Duquesne went 9-8 and 7-2 in the A-10 in 2016, including a 15-7 win over Saint Francis. The Red Flash, behind two goals and an assist from
Holly Lawrence (Damascus, Md./Damascus), trailed 6-4 at the half before the Dukes pulled away. Jill Vacanti paces Duquesne with 11 goals and three assists. Kaelin Shaw has added nine goals and four assists.
Starting Slow
The Red Flash played a quality Binghamton side even for large periods of the game but were plagued by slow starts to both halves. Binghamton scored the game's first five goals before the Red Flash settled in and outscored them 6-5 for the rest of the half. Nine unanswered goals by the Bearcats to open the second half sunk any hope of a Saint Francis comeback.
Rowan the Boat
Junior attacker
Sydney Rowan (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) has been as consistent as any Saint Francis player this season. Rowan has found the twine in all five Saint Francis games, tying her season-high in goals (2) and points (3) at Binghamton. Seven of her 11 shots attempts this season have resulted in goals.
LeConte Leading the Defense
An unsung hero of the team to date, freshman
Peyton LeConte (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) has been one of the most steady and reliable contributors in the Saint Francis defense. LeConte leads all defenders with nine ground balls and has also caused three turnovers and fielded three ground balls. The Maryland native caused two turnovers and recorded two ground balls at Binghamton.
