BOX SCORE Loretto, Pa. - The Saint Francis lacrosse team (4-3) needed every one of senior
Holly Lawrence (Damascus, Md./Damascus)'s career-high seven goals to edge the Longwood Lancers 13-12 on Sunday at DeGol Field. Lawrence scored her last two goals over the final 4:11 to erase a one-goal deficit and propel the Red Flash to victory.
Coach Concheck's Reaction
"Today was a great team win," said head coach
Kara Concheck. "Defensively, we finished out some big plays and forced some critical turnovers with our pressure and the offense did a great job of capitalizing on its scoring opportunities.
Holly Lawrence (Damascus, Md./Damascus) continues to be a massive threat all over the field. Not only did she score seven goals but she caused a couple of huge turnovers. She has a knack for rising to the occasion and her fire brought our unit together to finish out the game the way we wanted to."
Turning Point
Saint Francis took an 11-9 lead with 10:11 to play on a free position goal by Lawrence then saw its lead evaporate on three consecutive Longwood goals over the next 3:21. With her team trailing 12-11, senior
Heather McKee (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright Bel Air) came up with two critical stops, the first from a point blank free position, to keep her team in the game. Lawrence tied the game with 4:21 to play on a free position and then gave the Red Flash the lead for good with a Man-Up goal with 2:54 to play. Junior
Jessica Mazzur (Dallastown, Pa./York Catholic) set up the goal with a beautiful feed as Lawrence cut to the goal unimpeded. Lawrence sealed the win with her hustle, winning the ensuing draw control and then causing a turnover with 32 seconds to play as Saint Francis ran out the clock.
