WEST WINDSOR, N.J. – The Saint Francis Women's Tennis team fell 4-0 against top-seeded LIU Brooklyn in the NEC Semifinals on Saturday.  The Red Flash won a doubles match but the Blackbirds won the doubles point and three singles matches.  Saint Francis, the No. 4 seed in the tournament, finished the season with an 8-12 record, while LIU improved to 12-5 overall.

"It's disappointing to see our season come to an end, but we just ran into a better team today," said Head Coach Rob Castille. "I want to congratulate LIU on an excellent match. They are the top seed and deservedly so. It's been a tough season playing with five girls and I am so proud of the way we've handled that adversity. We have a very young team and will look to be even better next year."

Sophomore Raksha Bode (Reunion, Fla./Florida Virtual School) and freshman Lucia Seigford (Madrid, Spain/Mirasur) combined at No. 2 doubles against LIU's Sasha Bollweg and Malin Leysen.  The Red Flash duo earned a 6-3 win for its fifth win of the season.

At the top doubles spot, freshman Laura Gutierrez (Bogota, Colombia/Cibercolegio UCN) and sophomore Stephanie Miller (Washington, D.C./St. John's College High School) competed against Anna Grigoryan and Ana Leonte.  The SFU pair fell 6-4 to finish the Spring with a 4-8 mark.

The Blackbirds won the match at No. 3 by default due to no SFU player available.

"I thought our girls played extremely well in doubles," said Castille. "We were right there and had several chances to get the point. In singles, we competed hard, but just couldn't string together enough points at the right time to really get our teeth in the match."

Miller met LIU's Jennifer Gogova at the third singles spot.  The Saint Francis sophomore dropped a 6-2, 6-1 decision to conclude the season with an 11-9 record.

Bode took on the Blackbirds' Leysen at No. 4 singles.  The SFU sophomore fell 6-0, 6-1 to finish the Spring with a 10-10 mark.

The Blackbirds won the match at No. 6 by default due to no SFU player available.

Seigford faced LIU's Grigoryan at the top singles position.  The Red Flash rookie dropped the first set, 6-3, and was trailing 5-1 in the second set when the match was stopped.

Gutierrez competed against the Blackbirds' Bollweg at No. 2.  Gutierrez fell 6-2 in the opening set and was down 5-3 in the next set when the match was halted.
