Lawrence sets single-season goal record as SFU closes season with 15-14 loss at LIU Brooklyn

BOX SCORE Brooklyn, N.Y. - Senior midfielder Holly Lawrence (Damascus, Md./Damascus) scored three goals to become the first 50 goal scorer in school history as Saint Francis saw its season come to a close in a 15-14 loss at LIU Brooklyn.

It's a disappointing end to our season but we made positive strides and our moving in the right direction as a program," said head coach Kara Concheck. "We are thrilled to see Holly break the record and leave her mark on our program. Her tenacity, confidence and ability to finish under pressure is unrivaled. The great thing about Holly is she does all the little things right and doesn't care about the stats next to her name."

Turning Point

The Red Flash showed the same fight and resolve it has all season, battling back from an 11-6 deficit to tie the game at 11-11 on a goal by junior Jessica Fischetti (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) with 20:16 to play in the second half.

The Blackbirds scored four of the next five goals to lead 15-12 with 5:06 to play. Lawrence made things interesting with two goals in the final minute to cut the LIU Brooklyn lead to 15-14 with 21 seconds to play before time ran out.

Inside the Numbers
  • The Red Flash nearly doubled up on the Blackbirds in shots, finishing with a 43-23 advantage.
  • Shots on goal finished 28-20 in Saint Francis's favor.
  • Turnovers were even at 22-22 but the Red Flash were 19-20 on successful clear attempts.
  • Saint Francis dominated draw controls to the tune of 22-9.
  • The Blackbirds fielded 27 ground balls to 25 for Saint Francis.

  • As a team, Saint Francis finishes the season with 203 goals, the first team in school history to eclipse the 200 goal mark.
  • Lawrence broke the school record of 49 set by Danielle Conwell in 2012.
  • The Red Flash tie the school record for wins in a season with six.
  • Junior Jessica Mazzur (Dallastown, Pa./York Catholic) led Saint Francis with a career-high five goals to go along with three draw controls, two caused turnovers and a ground ball.
  • Junior Sarah Mahon (Malverne, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) scored three goals to finish her season with 44, tied for the third highest total in program history.
  • Mazzur led the team with 46 ground balls, the fourth highest single-season output in school history.
