LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis Men's Tennis concludes its regular season schedule at Saint Joseph's on Saturday. The Red Flash and The Hawks will meet for a 2 p.m. match at the SJU Tennis Complex.
The Red Flash, led by Head Coach
Rob Castille, enters the match riding a seven-match win streak. Saint Francis is 13-3 overall, its best start in program history, including a 4-0 mark in NEC matches.
Last weekend, Saint Francis earned a 6-1 win over Fairleigh Dickinson and battled through a tough match, which came down to the last set, for a 4-3 victory against Duquesne.
Freshman
Franz Luna (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Laurel Springs) picked up two wins at No. 2 last week to earn NEC Rookie of the Week honors for the fourth time this season. He leads SFU and the NEC with a 20-5 overall record, including 13-2 in dual matches.
Fellow rookie
Arturo Dell'eva (Verona, Italy/Sanchez Casal Tennis Academy) collected two victories at No. 2 to improve to 10-2 this Spring, while senior
Eli Cerdan (Bloomfield, N.J. /Saint Mary High School) moved to 9-3 in dual matches with two wins at No. 6.
Senior
Alec Dylan Foo-Kune (Phoenix, Mauritius/International Connections Academy (Md.)) is 11-5 this Spring, playing all of his matches at No. 1. Senior
Plamen Avuski (Plovdiv, Bulgaria /Math High School ) is 11-3, playing at No. 3, 4 and 5, while sophomore
Jan Vit Suntar (Cerklje na Gorenjskem, Slovenia/Gimnazija Kranj) is 12-2, also competing at No. 4, 5 and 6. Senior
Rodrigo Tico (Guadalajara, Mexico/Colegio de Bachilleres) is 6-5, playing at No. 3 and 4.
Foo-Kune and Luna have combined for a 4-1 record at No. 1 doubles. Dell'eva and Suntar are 6-3 at No. 2, while Avuski and Cerdan are 9-1 at No. 3.
Saint Joseph's is 8-8 overall, including 2-4 in the Atlantic 10. The Hawks own wins over Carnegie Mellon (6-1), Lafayette (7-0), Fairfield (6-1), Delaware (6-1), Fairleigh Dickinson (4-3), Siena (6-0), St. Bonaventure (6-1) and George Mason (4-2). SJU defeated the Bonnies and Patriots last weekend, but fell 4-3 against Drexel on Wednesday.
Senior Kyle Chalmers owns a 7-7 mark, playing at No. 1 and 2, while sophomore Tim Stierle is 7-5, also playing at No. 1 and 2. Junior Peter Dewitt is 9-2, playing at No. 4, 5 and 6.
Chalmers and Stierle are 2-0 at No. 1 doubles.
