Loretto, Pa.- The Saint Francis swimming team, led by head coach
Rory Coleman, makes its 2017-18 season debut on Friday when it visits Bowling Green State University. The Red Flash will compete in a 6 p.m. dual meet against the Falcons.
Saint Francis went 11-8 during the 2016-17 season, including a fourth place finish at the Northeast Conference Championships. The Red Flash have added 11 newcomers to the roster to compliment the 17 returners.
The returners include sophomore
Karilyn Quon (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol), who placed 3rd in the 400 Individual Medley in a pace of 4:24.95 and 4th in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:03.39 at the NEC Championships last season, both bettering the school record times. Quon was the MVP and Rookie of the Year last season for the Flash.
Senior
Katie Lafferty (Bremen, Ind./Bremen) earned three top-four finishes at the NEC Championships in the 50 Freestyle (3rd; 23.37), 200 Freestyle (4th; 1:51.09), and 100 Freestyle (4th; 51.51).
Sophomore
Erin O'Neill (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) and senior
Emma Karell (Norrtälje, Sweden/Täby Swim Club) each had two top-eight finishes at the NEC Championships for the Flash. O'Neill placed 5th in the 100 Breaststroke in a time of 1:04.54 and 7th in the 200 Breaststroke in a pace of 2:21.47. Karell excelled in the 1650 Freestyle placing 5th in a time of 17:36.67 and the 200 Butterfly where she touched in 7th place in a time of 2:07.92.
O'Neill, Quon, Lafferty, and Karell each return after being on a 3rd place finishing relay team for the Flash at the NEC Championships last season.
