Red Flash prepare for Mountaineers and Wildcats

Loretto, Pa – The Saint Francis Red Flash field hockey team (5-7, 2-2) looks to rebound from its loss to Saint Joseph's as it hits the road to face off with Appalachian State and Davidson.

Scouting Appalachian State

The Mountaineers are 4-8 overall and 0-3 in Mid-American conference play. Appalachian State is coming off a 8-0 loss against the #4 Duke Blue Devils. Veerle Van Heertum and Ali Williams lead the mountaineer offense with four goals each. Van Heertum has 10 points on four goals and two assists, while Williams has eight points on four goals. Four Mountaineers have tallied two goals or more on the season. Goalkeeper Rachel Gaines has made 58 saves on 118 shots faced posting a 2.71 goals allowed average. Saint Francis is 4-2 all time against Appalachian State with the most recent meeting coming in 2016 resulting in a 6-0 Red Flash victory.

Scouting Davidson

Davidson will enter Sunday's match 4-6 overall and 1-1 in Atlantic 10 conference play pending a match with conference opponent Lock Haven on Friday. Kristin Kisa leads the Wildcat offense with 12 points on five goals and two assists. Leigha Nortier is the second lead scorer tallying 10 points on four goals and two assists. Goalkeeper Sarah Zeszotarki has posted a .750 save percentage and a 2.57 goals allowed average. Saint Francis is 2-5 all time against Davidson with the recent meeting in 2016 ended in a 2-1 Saint Francis victory.

Saint Francis is currently in fourth place at 2-2. Davidson sits one spot behind the Red Flash at 1-1, so this weekends match up could prove to be pivotal for both teams playoff chances.
