MONROEVILLE, Pa. – The Saint Francis Men's Tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at Carnegie Mellon on Saturday at The Club Sport and Health in Monroeville. The Red Flash won a singles match and a doubles match, but dropped the doubles point and five singles matches. SFU is now 0-5 this Spring, while the Tartans, ranked 10th in the ITA Division III Poll, moved to 4-1 this season.

Sophomore
Franz Luna (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Laurel Springs) and freshman
Sebastian Pinos (Quito, Ecuador/Compuinformatica) matched up against CMU's Jeffrey Chen and Robert Levin at No. 2 doubles. The Red Flash duo earned a tough 7-5 victory to improve to 5-4 overall and 2-3 this Spring.

At the top doubles spot, senior
Alec Dylan Foo-Kune (Phoenix, Mauritius/International Connections Academy (Md.)) and sophomore
Eduardo Garcia (Toluca, Mexico/Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Mexico) took on Carnegie Mellon's Daniel Levine and Kailas Shekar. The SFU pair suffered a 6-4 setback.

In the match at No. 3, junior
Chad Allender (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) and sophomore
Samuel Miller (Smithfield, R.I./Homeschool) met the Tartans' Nicholas Calzolano and Chaz Downing. The SFU duo fell 6-3 as CMU clinched the doubles point.

Foo-Kune faced Carnegie Mellon's Downing at the No. 2 singles spot. The Red Flash senior claimed a 6-4 win in the opening set. He repeated that performance in the next set to clinch a straight-set victory. Foo-Kune improved to 3-2 this Spring and 7-6 overall.

Luna took on CMU's Levine at No. 1. The SFU sophomore fell 7-5, 6-2 and is now 3-2 in dual matches. At No. 3, Pinos battled CMU's Ray Boppana, but dropped a 7-5, 6-1 decision and is now 2-3 this Spring.

At No. 4 singles, Miller met the Tartans' Shekar. However, the SFU sophomore suffered a 6-2, 6-2, setback. In the match at No. 6, Allender faced CMU's Joshua Pinckney, but fell 6-1, 6-1.

Garcia competed against Carnegie Mellon's Levin at No. 5. The Red Flash sophomore won a tough first set, 7-5, but Levin responded by winning the second set, 6-1. In the super-tiebreaker deciding set, Levin came out on top, 10-7.

The Red Flash wraps up the weekend on Sunday against Dayton. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at The Club Sport and Health.
