Red Flash Host Radford in Season Opener

Loretto, Pa – The Saint Francis University women' lacrosse team opens its season on Friday, Feb. 16, when it hosts Radford at 1 p.m.
 

Scouting Radford

Radford went 6-11 in 2017, its second season as a program. The Highlanders scored 222 goals, led by 48 from sophomore preseason All-Big South attacker Emma Rogers. Lindsey Carroll led the team with 38 assists. Carroll earned All-Big South Second team honors last season. Preseason All-Big South defender Shea Swingle looks to make her presence felt on the defensive end. Swingle led Radford with 47 ground balls collected. She also led Radford with 31 caused turnovers, ranking her fourth in the conference.
 

Mahon Climbing Up The Record Books

Senior attacker Sarah Mahon (Malverne, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) had a a breakout junior season recording career highs in goals (44) and points (52). Mahon ranks fifth all time in career total points (117), fourth in career goals (91), and ninth in career assists (26). She also tied the school record with nine points on seven goals and two assists in a win at Saint Mary's on March 26.

Goal Scoring Trio

The Red Flash scored 203 goals last season, the best output in school history. The Red Flash are returning three of their top four scorers; Sarah Mahon (Malverne, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial), Jessica Mazzur (Dallastown, Pa./York Catholic), and Jessica Fischetti (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) from last season. The big three combined for a total of 88 goals, 32 assists, and 120 points during their 2017 campaign.Saint Francis ranked third in the NEC in goals per game (12.69) and fourth in the NEC in assists per game (4.44) With three of their top four scorers returning the Red Flash should be just as dangerous in the attack as they were a season ago.

Excelling in many areas

Saint Francis ranked 24 in the nation with a .451 shooting percentage. They were also very successful when competing for possession.. The Red Flash averaged 14.06 draw controls per game and ranked 35 in the nation averaging 19.05 ground balls per contest. Lastly, Saint Francis averaged 12.69 goals per game last year, ranking them as the 41st best scoring offense in all of Division one.
