AUBURN, ALA. – The Saint Francis Softball team competed through a tough seven-inning contest against No. 13 Auburn on Friday night, falling 4-3 at Jane B. Moore Field.  The Red Flash never trailed until the final pitch of the game, but a throwing error on a bunt allowed the Tigers to scratch across the winning run.  Earlier in the day, SFU dropped a 10-3 decision against Georgia State.  The Red Flash is 3-4 this season, while Auburn improved to 9-0 and Georgia State is now 4-4.

Saint Francis has a losing record for the first time since 2015, when it started 7-11.

The Red Flash hit two homers in its battle with the Tigers, a two-run shot by Madison Cabell (Ivor, Va./Southampton) and a solo homer by Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois), to bring its total up to eight this season.  With Mikayla Bower (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport)'s RBI double in the first inning, SFU snapped Auburn's 53-inning streak without allowing an earned run.

The Tiger Invitational continues on Saturday, beginning with a matchup against Auburn at 5:30 p.m. ET on SEC Network+, which can be found on watchespn.com.  In the nightcap, SFU will take on Georgia State at 8:30 p.m. ET.  The tournament wraps up on Sunday, with SFU battling Maryland at 9 a.m. ET.

Game 1 – Georgia State
Sophomore Adrian Smith (Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) started in the circle for the Red Flash.  In three innings of work, and a few batters into the fourth, she allowed five runs on seven hits, with two strikeouts and two walks.  Sophomore Abby Trahan (Kaplan, La./Kaplan) replaced Smith in the fourth inning.  She threw four innings, giving up five runs, three earned, on seven hits and striking out one.

Kinsley Jennings got the start for Georgia State.  The senior went five innings, giving up three runs on four hits and a walk, while striking out seven.  Sophomore Mallory Parson closed out the game, throwing two shutout innings, allowing three hits and striking out two.

Saint Francis scored three runs on seven hits, led by junior Kassidy Troxell (Navarre, Ohio/Perry)'s solo homer in the fourth.  Troxell went two-for-three on the day.  Fellow juniors Mikayla Bower (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) and Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) also had two-for-three performances.  Bower hit a single and a double to drive in two runs, while McKee singled, doubled and scored a run.  Junior Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) added a single and senior Jordan Seneca (Plum, Pa./Plum) scored a run.

Georgia State tallied 10 runs on 14 hits.  Ivie Drake, Caitlin Ray and Arden Jobe all drove in two runs for the Panthers.  Jobe and Ray each had a double and Jobe scored three runs.  Remington Hasty added two hits, with an RBI, and two runs, and Kristin Hawkins collected two hits, including a double, and a run.

The Red Flash got on the board early with a pair of runs in the first inning.  Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) led off the inning with a line-drive single to right.  Jordan Seneca (Plum, Pa./Plum) followed with a walk.  Two batters later, Madison Cabell (Ivor, Va./Southampton) squared around to bunt, with McKee moving to third and Seneca to second on a double steal.  Bower then roped an 0-1 pitch off the wall for a double in left to drive in both runners.

The Panthers tied the game in the top of the third.  After a walk by Drake and a single up the middle by Hasty, a wild pitch moved the runners up to second and third.  Jobe hit a chopper over MeKenzie Saban (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills)'s glove into left field to plate both runners and tie the game at 2-2.

Georgia State exploded for six runs in the top of the fourth.  Brenna Skalski singled to center to score Taylor Bradley, who had reached on a hit-by-pitch.  Reagan Morgan then hit a fly ball double to left center to allow Kristin Hawkins to score.  Drake followed with a two-run single to right.  Two batters later, Hasty doubled to left to plate Drake and GSU's final run of the inning came on an error, with Hasty scoring.  GSU led 8-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth.

The Red Flash got one run back in the bottom of the fourth.  With two outs and an 0-1 count, Troxell blasted a ball over the wall in left field for a solo shot.  SFU trailed 8-3 after four innings.

The Panthers added a run in the top of the fifth.  After Hawkins doubled to center, the pinch-hitter, Ray, lined a two-out single to right center to plate Hawkins.  GSU held a 9-3 advantage.

Game 2 – Auburn
Abby Trahan (Kaplan, La./Kaplan) made the start in game two, going the distance.  She threw 6.1 innings, allowing four runs, three earned, on four hits and five walks.  Trahan struck out four batters.  The Louisiana native held the Tigers' offense in check, not allowing a hit until the fourth inning.

Kaylee Carlson, an All-America selection in 2017, started in the circle for Auburn.  The senior gave up three runs on seven hits, with three strikeouts and no walks, in five innings.  Makayla Martin relieved Carlson and threw two perfect innings, including five strikeouts.

Saint Francis is just the fifth team to homer twice off of Carlson in a game.  Madison Cabell (Ivor, Va./Southampton) hit a two-run homer and Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) added a solo shot.  Kassidy Troxell (Navarre, Ohio/Perry) went three-for-three, with three singles and a run.  The Red Flash scored three runs on seven hits, breaking Auburn's 53-inning streak without allowing an earned run.

Morgan Podany led the Tigers offense with a two-run homer.  The Tigers were held to three runs on four hits.  Taylon Snow contributed a triple and a run and Justus Perry added an RBI single.

The Red Flash were the first on the board in game two.  Leading off the third inning, McKee smoked a 1-2 pitch over the wall in center for her first dinger of the year.  SFU led 1-0 going to the bottom of the third.

The Tigers tied the game in the bottom of the fourth.  After going hitless for the first 3.1 innings, Snow lined a triple to center.  Perry followed with a single into center, which tipped off Trahan's glove, to score Snow.  The game was tied 1-1 after four innings.

Saint Francis re-took the lead with a two-out rally in the top of the fifth.  With two outs, Troxell lined a single to right for her third hit of the day.  On 1-0 pitch, Cabell launched a fly ball over the left field fence for a two-run bomb.  The Red Flash held a 3-1 advantage.

Auburn tied the game again in the bottom of the fifth.  After McCrackin reached on a walk and stole second, Podany lined a 2-2 pitch to left that just cleared the wall for a two-run homer.  The score was even at 3-3 after five innings.

The Tigers started the bottom of the seventh with a walk by Tannon Snow.  After a popped up bunt, caught by Troxell, pinch-runner Brittany Maresette stole second.  Victoria Draper followed by dropping a bunt in front of the pitcher's circle, with an errant throw allowing Maresette to score from second and clinch the win.
