Softball Blasts Four Homers In 8-1 Win Over Georgia State, Falls 5-0 vs. No. 13 Auburn

AUBURN, Ala. – The Saint Francis softball team blasted four homers, including a grand slam by Kassidy Troxell (Navarre, Ohio/Perry), to earn an 8-1 win over Georgia State in the nightcap on Saturday.  The Red Flash fell 5-0 against No. 13 Auburn in the first game of the day.  The Red Flash is now 4-5 this season.
 
With four home runs on Saturday, Saint Francis now has 12 this season.  The Red Flash reached 12 home runs in the season in just nine games, the fastest in program history, topping 13 games in 2017.
 
Madison Cabell (Ivor, Va./Southampton) and Kassidy Troxell (Navarre, Ohio/Perry) both hit their fourth homer of the season against Georgia State.  They tied Jordan Seneca (Plum, Pa./Plum) in 2017 for the fastest players to hit four home runs, in just nine games.
 
The Red Flash hit four homers in a game for the first time since March 5, 2017 against Incarnate Word.  Troxell hit SFU's first grand slam since the Red Flash's NCAA Regional win over New Mexico State on May 20, 2017.
 
The Red Flash concludes the Tiger Invitational on Sunday with a matchup against Maryland.  First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m. ET.
 
Game 1 – Auburn
Sophomore Abby Trahan (Kaplan, La./Kaplan) started in the circle for the Red Flash.  In six innings of work, Trahan allowed five runs on five hits and two walks, while striking out four.  The sophomore retired 12 of 13 batters during a stretch between the first and fifth innings, with the only baserunner reaching on a walk.
 
Makayla Martin, a junior, got the start for Auburn.  She threw a complete-game, giving up just two hits and a hit-batter, while striking out nine.
 
The Red Flash tallied two hits in the game.  Junior Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) had a single in the third inning, while junior Hayley Norton (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) contributed a single in the sixth inning.  McKee also reached on a hit-by-pitch in the first inning.
 
Auburn's offense was led by Justus Perry and Tannon Snow, who each drove in two runs.  Perry hit a solo homer and an RBI single.  Snow collected two hits, including a two-run homer.  Taylon Snow went two-for-three with an RBI single.
 
In the top of the first, Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) led off the game with a hit-by-pitch.  She then moved to second on a groundout by Hayley Norton (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) to put a runner in scoring position.  However, a strikeout and a groundout to the pitcher ended the threat.
 
The Tigers got on the board in the bottom of the first.  Leadoff batter Victoria Draper was hit by a pitch and later stole second.  Taylon Snow sent a groundball through the middle to bring home Draper and give Auburn a 1-0 lead.
 
Auburn added a run in the bottom of the fifth on a homer by Tannon Snow.  With one out, the Tigers' sophomore launched the first pitch of the at-bat over the left field wall.  The Tigers led 2-0 after five innings.
 
McKee hit a one-out single in the third inning, but a double play ended the inning.  In the top of the sixth, Norton lined a two-out base hit to left, but a popout finished the frame.
 
The Tigers extended its lead with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.  After Taylon Snow reached on an infield single, Perry hit a 1-1 pitch over the wall in left. Later in the inning, Casey McCrackin reached on a walk and pinch-runner Bree Fornis stole second and moved to third on a throwing error.  Tannon Snow followed with a single up the middle to score Fornis and give Auburn a 5-0 advantage.
 
Game 2 – Georgia State
Sophomore Adrian Smith (Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) got the start in game two, throwing all seven innings for her second win of the year.  Smith allowed just four hits and two walks, while striking out four and giving up just one unearned run.  After GSU crossed the plate in the first inning, the Panthers had just four baserunners the rest of the game.  Smith retired 14 of the final 15 batters she faced.
 
Georgia State tabbed Amanda Chance to start.  She fired 4.2 innings, allowing six runs on six hits, while striking out three and walking four.  Emily Soles pitched the final 2.1 innings, giving up two runs on three hits and striking out two.
 
The Red Flash knocked in eight runs on nine hits, led by Kassidy Troxell (Navarre, Ohio/Perry)'s grand slam in the fifth inning.  Hayley Norton (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove) had two hits, including a two-run homer in the sixth.  Mikayla Bower (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) went two-for-four with a solo homer and Madison Cabell (Ivor, Va./Southampton) added a homer.  Jordan Seneca (Plum, Pa./Plum) and Taylor Hoover (Phillipsburg, Ohio/Northmont) each hit doubles, while Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) contributed a hit and two runs.
 
Georgia State scored a run on four hits.  Reagan Morgan collected two hits, while Ivie Drake had a hit and a run and Megan Litumbe added a base hit.
 
The Panthers took the lead in the bottom of the first.  Baylee Sexton reached on an error to begin the inning.  Morgan singled to left to move Sexton to third.  Drake followed with a single up the middle to plate Sexton.  Georgia State loaded the bases later in the inning, but Smith used two strikeouts to hold GSU to a 1-0 lead.
 
The Red Flash answered with a run in the top of the second.  On the first pitch of the inning, Bower hit a fly ball off the scoreboard in left center for a solo homer, her second of the season.  That homer tied that game at 1-1.
 
Saint Francis exploded for five runs in the top of the fifth.  Taylor Hoover (Phillipsburg, Ohio/Northmont) led off the inning with a fly ball that landed in left field for a double.  After Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) drew a walk to put runners on first and second, Halle Marion (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) dropped down a sacrifice bunt to move up McKee and pinch-runner Brittney Crawford (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon McMillan).  Norton then worked a walk to load the bases.  On the next pitch, Troxell crushed a ball over the wall in right center for a grand slam.  The Red Flash went back to back when Cabell hit an 0-1 pitch over the fence in left field to put SFU ahead, 6-1.
 
The Red Flash added two runs in the sixth.  Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) singled to center to start the inning, with a Marion sac bunt moving her to second.  Two batters later, Norton blasted an 0-1 pitch over the wall in right center for a two-run bomb, her first of the year.  SFU led 8-1 going into the bottom of the sixth.
