Loretto, Pa – Saint Francis lacrosse (0-1) looks to bounce back from its 13-8 loss against Radford last weekend with upcoming games at Quinnipiac (Feb. 24) and Hartford (Feb. 26).
Scouting Quinnipiac
Quinnipiac went 4-13 in 2017 and is 0-2 to open its 2018 season with losses to Brown and Yale. Emily Byrne leads the team with three points on three goals and no assists. Ashley Bobinski is second on the team in goals scored with two. Senior Kiera Kelly has made her defensive presence felt with four caused turnovers this season.
Scouting Hartford
Hartford enters its first season as a program under head coach Meg Decker. Decker joined the Hawks after helping to build the VCU women's lacrosse program from scratch as an assistant coach and being a player on the inaugural women's lacrosse team at the United States Naval Academy. Decker believes that the Hawks first season is an "opportunity to show that we can mentally perform at an elite level."
Fischetti Finding the Net
Senior attacker Jessica Fischetti (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) was sharp for Saint Francis in its season opener, scoring two goals on four shots and gaining possession on three ground balls.
Stoessel Making Saves
Junior goalkeeper Ashley Stoessel (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East) made a career-high 14 saves in last weeks loss against Radford. Stoessel saved 14 of the 27 shots she faced, giving her a save percentage of .519%.
Freshmen Debuts
Many freshmen impressed for the Red Flash in their collegiate debuts. Paige Brady (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner Archbishop Prendergast Catholic ) and Emileigh Scott (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) scored their first career goals in the loss to the Highlanders, while midfielder Emma Graham (Perth, Australia/St. Hilda's) earned the start in the midfield recording three ground balls and causing a turnover. Amanda Heidt (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) was active in the midfield with one free-position shot, one ground ball, and one caused turnover.
