Â
The Red Flash put two runs on the board in the top of the first. Frank led off the inning with a single up the middle. A grounder by Norton went just under the glove of Drake's second baseman as Frank went to third and Norton ended up on second. Two batters later,
Sierra McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) lined a single to right to bring home Frank. With Bower at the plate, a baserunning play resulted in McKee being thrown out at second, but Norton crossed the plate. Bower followed with a double to left center, but a strikeout ended the inning with the Red Flash leading 2-0.
Â
Saint Francis extended its lead to 3-0 in the top of the fifth. With one out, Norton crushed the first pitch of her at-bat off the wall in center for a double. Cabell then traded places with Norton, lining a 1-1 pitch to the wall in right for her own double, allowing Norton to come around to score.
Â
Drake answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth. After a single by Wright loaded the bases, with one out, the pinch-hitter, Newman, hit a blooper that landed in right-center between three Red Flash fielders. Frank picked the ball up and fired to second to complete a fielder's choice, but Melissa Schlotzhauer scored on the play. The Red Flash led 3-1 after five innings.
