Lacrosse heads to Michigan for games at Detroit Mercy and Central Michigan

Loretto, Pa – The Saint Francis lacrosse team (4-3), heads to Michigan this week to play games at Detroit Mercy on Thursday, Mar. 15 at 2:30 p.m. ET and Central Michigan on Saturday Mar. 17, at 12 p.m. ET.

Scouting Detroit Mercy

Detroit Mercy begins their season 2-3 with wins against American and Butler. The Titans are averaging ten goals a game led by Kaitlyn Wandelt's 11 and Jordyn Beam's 9. Wandelt (17) and Beam (15) also lead the team in points. Detroit Mercy is allowing 13.40 goals per game, but has held their opponents under double figures in two of their last three games. On the defensive end, Allison McDonough leads the Titans with 20 ground balls and has caused five turnovers.

Scouting Central Michigan

The Chippewas are 2-4 with a game scheduled vs. Duquesne on Thursday. Their two victories came against American and Butler. Central Michigan is averaging nine goals a game and scoring is led by Sophomore Shannon Doyle (11). Jessica Schuchardt ranks second in points with 13 on five goals and a team-high eight assists.

Saint Francis is currently tied with Mount St. Mary's atop the NEC standings with a 4-3 record and a .571 winning percentage. The Red Flash rank first in the NEC in ground balls per game (26.00) and draw controls per game (16.75). Saint Francis is second in the NEC in goals per game (12.75), assists per game (4.75), and caused turnovers per game (11.50).

Mazzur Making a Difference

Senior Jessica Mazzur (Dallastown, Pa./York Catholic) has been tearing it up for the Red Flash this season. Mazzur leads the team in goals (23), assists (8), points (31) and free-position goals (7). She is tied-for-twenty-third in the country in total points.

Making History

Saint Francis's 4-3 start equals its best start through seven games in program history. The Red Flash are currently enjoying a three-game win streak, which ties the longest in program history. A win Thursday against Detroit Mercy will make history for the Saint Francis lacrosse team.
