QUEENS, N.Y. – The Saint Francis Men's Tennis team fell 7-0 against St. John's on Friday at the National Tennis Center. The Red Flash won a doubles match, but the Red Storm won the doubles point and six singles matches. Saint Francis is now 2-9 on the season, while St. John's improved to 9-3.

Franz Luna (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Laurel Springs) and freshman
Sebastian Pinos (Quito, Ecuador/Compuinformatica) competed at No. 2 doubles against St. John's Andrei Crapcenco and Igor Maslov. The Red Flash duo earned a 6-4 win to improve to 6-5 this Spring.

Alec Dylan Foo-Kune (Phoenix, Mauritius/International Connections Academy (Md.)) and sophomore
Eduardo Garcia (Toluca, Mexico/Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Mexico) dropped a 6-2 decision at No. 1 against the Red Storm's Alan Nunez Aguilera and Luka Sucevic, while freshman
Charles Morkel (Cape Town, South Africa/Paul Roos Gymnasium) and junior
Jan Vit Suntar (Cerklje na Gorenjskem, Slovenia/Gimnazija Kranj) fell 6-2 at No. 3 against SJU's Alex Roszkowski and Dusan Vukicevic.

"We came up against a strong SJU team tonight, one of the stronger teams we've seen all season," said Head Coach
Rob Castille. "I thought we played some decent doubles on courts two and three, but could have been better on court one. It was nice to see JV and Charlie back on the court after lengthy injuries."

At No. 1 singles, Luna matched up against St. John's Sucevic. The Red Flash sophomore fell 6-3 in the first set, but bounced back for a 6-2 win in the next set. In the deciding set, Sucevic came out on top, 6-2.

Foo-Kune fell 7-5, 6-1 at No. 2 against the Red Storm's Nunez Aguilera. At No. 3, Pinos dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision against SJU's Crapcenco.

In the match at No. 4, sophomore
Samuel Miller (Smithfield, R.I./Homeschool) dropped a 6-1, 7-5 result against the Red Storm's Vukicevic. At No. 5, Garcia fell 6-2, 6-0 against SJU's Maslov. Junior
Chad Allender (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) fell 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 against SJU's Roszkowski.

"In singles, I thought we played good sets on most of the courts," said Castille. "However, as we discussed after the match, we need to be able to keep our intensity high for the duration of the match in order to be successful against these type teams. This will be a big focus of ours over the next couple of weeks and we'll look to implement this mindset in our match on Sunday."

The Red Flash will take on St. Francis Brooklyn on Sunday in its NEC opener. The match is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. The Terriers 3-8 this season, including an 0-1 mark in the NEC.
