LORETTO, Pa. – The Saint Francis Men's Tennis team continues NEC play on Friday against Sacred Heart. The Red Flash hosts the Pioneers for a 2 p.m. match at The Club Sport and Health in Monroeville.
The Red Flash, led by Head Coach
Rob Castille, is 3-9 overall after winning its NEC opener against St. Francis Brooklyn, 5-2, last Sunday. SFU also fell 7-0 at St. John's on Friday.
Freshman
Sebastian Pinos (Quito, Ecuador/Compuinformatica) was named NEC Rookie of the Week for his performance over the weekend. Pinos earned a win at No. 3 singles against SFBK and combined with sophomore
Franz Luna (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Laurel Springs) for a pair of doubles wins at No. 2.
Against the Terriers, senior
Alec Dylan Foo-Kune (Phoenix, Mauritius/International Connections Academy (Md.)) claimed a win at No. 2 singles. Freshman
Charles Morkel (Cape Town, South Africa/Paul Roos Gymnasium) earned a win at No. 4 in his Spring debut, while sophomore
Eduardo Garcia (Toluca, Mexico/Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Mexico) added a win at No. 6. Morkel and junior
Jan Vit Suntar (Cerklje na Gorenjskem, Slovenia/Gimnazija Kranj) paired up for a win at No. 3 doubles.
Foo-Kune and Luna share the team-lead with six singles wins this Spring. Luna's wins have all come at No. 1, with Foo-Kune playing mostly at No. 2. Pinos has four wins this Spring, while Garcia has three victories, playing mostly at No. 5. Morkel and sophomore
Samuel Miller (Smithfield, R.I./Homeschool) each have one win, while junior
Chad Allender (Altoona, Pa./Altoona Area) is looking for his first victory. Luna and Pinos lead the team with a 7-5 mark at No. 2 doubles.
Sacred Heart is 3-8 this season and will take on Saint Francis in its NEC opener. The Pioneers own wins this year over Siena (5-2), Holy Cross (7-0) and Saint Peter's (5-2).
