Saint Francis speared by Lancers, 12-10

Loretto, Pa – The Saint Francis lacrosse team saw its second-half comeback fall short in a 12-10 loss to Longwood on Sunday to drop to 4-6 overall. Senior Sarah Mahon (Malverne, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) led the Red Flash with four goals to become just the fourth player in program history to reach 100 for her career. Senior Jessica Mazzur (Dallastown, Pa./York Catholic) added two goals.

Turning Point

Fischetti opened the scoring with a goal at 24:25 of the first half, but Kaitlin Luccarelli of Longwood evened things up shortly after at the 21:54 mark. Mahon broke the early stalemate and Longwood responded with three straight. Saint Francis would not take the lead for the rest of the game. In the second-half, the Lancers opened things up with another 3-0 run to take a 9-4 lead. Fischetti was able to make it a 10-8 game with 11:15 remaining in the second-half, but the Red Flash were unable to get any closer than two goals the rest of the way.
 

Inside the Numbers

  • The Red Flash finished with a 30-26 advantage in shots and a 22-19 edge in shots on goal.

  • Saint Francis forced Longwood into 19 turnovers while committing just 14. Sophomore defender Peyton LeConte (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) led Saint Francis with six caused turnovers.

  • Longwood won 12 of 23 draw controls and recorded 25 ground balls to 20 for SFU.

  • Saint Francis was 3-8 in free position shots, while Longwood was held to zero attempts.
     

Notes

  • Mahon joins Danielle Conwell, Kate Simmons and Holly Lawrence (Damascus, Md./Damascus) as the only players to score 100 career goals.
    Senior Jessica Fischetti (Massapequa, N.Y./Plainedge) finished with two goals and an assist.

  • Amanda Heidt (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) finished with two goals on four shots.

  • Emileigh Scott (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) won 6 of SFU 11 draw controls.

  • Ashley Stoessel (Smithtown, N.Y./Smithtown East) made seven saves in the loss.
