Kennesaw, Ga. - The Saint Francis lacrosse team looks to even its record to .500 with two wins this week at Kennesaw State on Sunday, Mar. 4, and Gardner-Webb on Tuesday, Mar. 6. Tuesday's game time at Gardner-Webb has been moved to 11 a.m.
Scouting Kennesaw State
The Owls own a matching 1-3 record as the Red Flash but played Arizona State, Vanderbilt and Marquette close in its three losses before downing East Carolina 17-14 on Thursday. Siena Gore has been at the forefront of the Kennesaw State attack with a team-high 16 goals followed by Izzy Palermo with nine. Haley Swift leads the team with three assists to go along with five goals. The Owls have allowed 14 or more goals in all four of its games.
Scouting Gardner-Webb
The Runnin' Bulldogs are 1-2 with an opening-season win over Wofford and losses to Cincinnati, and most recently, East Carolina in overtime. Gardner-Webb's attack, which averages 14.7 goals per game, is led by the duo of Amanda Steinmuller and Talen Francis. Steinmuller leads in points with 16 on 11 goals and five assists. Francis owns the lead in goals with 12. In its three games, Gardner-Webb is just -.66 in scoring margin. Saint Francis defeated the Runnin' Bulldogs 19-3 last season behind six goals from
Holly Lawrence (Damascus, Md./Damascus).
CAREER GAMES
Senior
Jessica Mazzur (Dallastown, Pa./York Catholic) and sophomores
Lauren Ryan (Fallston, Md./Notre Dame Prep) and
Livia Baker (Fallston, Md./Fallston High School) all enjoyed career performances in Thursday's loss to Duquesne. Mazzur recorded a career-high seven points on three goals and four assists, besting her previous career-high of six set vs. Delaware State during her sophomore season. Ryan, who entered the game with two goals on the season, potted a career-high four on just four shots. Baker also set a new career-high with four points on two goals and two assists.
MAZZUR'S MILESTONE
With her seven points, Mazzur became just the 8th player in school history to reach 100 career points. The senior midfielder ranks fourth in school history with 39 assists and 10th in career goals with 61. Mazzur currently ranks second in the NEC in points per game (4.75), only behind Bryant's Jess DeMeo (5.0). She also ranks second in the conference in ground balls per game (3.75).
GREAT SCOTT
Freshman Emiliegh Scott has been a terror on the draw control all season long. Scott leads the NEC in draw controls per game (9.0) and ranks t-4th in all of NCAA Division I. As a team, Saint Francis ranks 9th in the country and first in the NEC, averaging 16.75 draw controls per game. Scott also ranks second on the team in goals with seven, scoring at least two goals in three of her four collegiate games.
NEC LEADERS
SFU's potent attack has proven to be one of the best in the conference through four games. The Red Flash has scored 35 goals in its last two games and ranks second in the NEC in scoring offense at 12.75 goals per game. SFU also ranks first in the NEC in assists per game (4.75), first in ground balls per game (26.0), second in points per game (17.5), first in draw controls (16.75), first in shots per game (33.0) and second in caused turnovers per game (11.75).
