STILLWATER, Okla. – The Saint Francis Softball team dropped a 9-3 decision at No. 23 Oklahoma State on Sunday at Cowgirl Stadium. SFU hit two homers on the day, with one each from
Madison Cabell (Ivor, Va./Southampton) and
Hayley Norton (Spring Grove, Pa./Spring Grove). The Red Flash dropped to 11-9 on the season, while the Cowgirls improved to 14-6.

Sophomore
Abby Trahan (Kaplan, La./Kaplan) started in the circle for the Red Flash. She threw four innings, allowing eight runs, seven earned, on six hits and seven walks, while striking out three. Sophomore
Adrian Smith (Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) pitched the final two innings, giving up a run on two hits.

Senior Emmie Robertson started for the Cowgirls. In two innings, she allowed two runs on three hits and two walks, while striking out two. Sophomore Logan Simunek replaced Robertson to start the third inning. Simunek fired the final five innings, giving up a run on four hits and three walks, while recording four strikeouts.

Saint Francis tallied three runs on seven hits.  Cabell hit a two-run homer in the first inning, her team-best seventh of the season. Norton went two-for-three with a solo homer, while junior
Kassidy Troxell (Navarre, Ohio/Perry) had a double.Â
Taylor Hoover (Phillipsburg, Ohio/Northmont),
Cheyenne McKee (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) and
MeKenzie Saban (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) each had one hit and
Jordan Frank (DuBois, Pa./DuBois Central Catholic) scored a run.

Oklahoma State had nine runs on eight hits. Junior Madi Sue Montgomery had three hits, including a homer, two runs and two RBI. Junior Taylor Lynch collected two hits, including a homer, scored two runs and drove in three. Senior Jessi Hafner added a two-run homer. Vanessa Shippy scored two runs and drew three walks.

The Red Flash jumped out to a two-run lead in the top of the first on a homer by Cabell.  Frank led off the inning with a walk. Two batters later, a wild pitch moved Frank up to second before Cabell launched a 3-1 pitch to the road beyond the left field wall.Â

The Cowgirls answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. After a walk and two singles to start the inning, Sydney Pennington's sacrifice fly to center brought home Shippy. Two batters later, Whitney Whitehorn hit a fly ball to center for another sac fly, this time bringing in Lynch to even the score a 2-2 after the first inning.

Oklahoma State added four runs in the second inning. With one out and two runners on base, Lynch hit a 2-2 pitch over the wall in right for a three-run shot. Montgomery followed with a dinger to right to extend OSU's lead to 6-2.

The Cowgirls held an 8-2 advantage after a homer in the fourth inning. With one out and a runner on first, Haffner hit a fly ball over the fence in left for a two-run shot.

Saint Francis got a run back in the top of the fifth. With one out, Norton hit the first pitch of her at-bat over the wall in center. It was Norton's third of the season and cut the deficit to 8-3.

Oklahoma State scored a run in the bottom of the fifth. With runners on first and second, Montgomery hit a grounder through the right side to allow pinch-runner Brighton Gilbert to score from second and extend the OSU lead to 9-3.

The Red Flash continues its Spring Break trip with a big matchup on Wednesday at No. 4 Oklahoma. The defending national champions are 12-2 this season. The Red Flash meets the Sooners for a 7 p.m. ET matchup on Fox Sports Oklahoma.
